Abstract: The intelligent alarm system of the present invention provides a reliable, low cost system for alerting a user to the presence of snow outside of a building. The system includes a sensor and an intelligent alarm clock for use inside a building or dwelling. The system can be set by a user to signal an alarm a programmable amount of time earlier or later than the user's normal waking time if an accumulation of snow is detected. The system is capable of processing preprogrammed data, user entered data and data accumulated from the sensor to determine whether a true snow condition exists and to generate an appropriate alarm signal.

Abstract: Composition suitable for free radical, radiation curable coating comprising at least one polyester having unsaturated backbone and at least one compound having two to six propenyl ether groups, and optionally, a free radical photoinitiator. The equivalent ratio of propenyl ether groups to maleimide, maleate and/or fumarate groups in the polyester is preferably about 5:1 to about 1:5.The process for curing the composition includes exposing it to ionizing radiation and/or ultraviolet light. The resultant cured coatings and coated articles are similar in performance to their vinyl ether analogues, but the propenyl ethers are easier to prepare than the vinyl ether analogues.

Abstract: An electrode set (i.e., a separator between two electrodes) is placed within an electrically nonconductive mounting cage prior to sealing the mounting cage/electrode set assembly within a battery container having a cup-shaped lower part and a lid-shaped upper part. In a preferred embodiment, the mounting cage has a ring from which extend retaining arms with a projection at the end. The retaining arms are interconnected by curved-rib connections positioned near the separator. The mounting cage enables the electrode set to be accurately assembled before being sealed within the battery container. The ring of the mounting cage forms a sealing ring between the battery container (which acts as one electrical contact for the battery) and a contact spring that is placed within the mounting cage before the electrode set and acts as the other electrical contact. The retaining arms and projections hold the components of the electrode set accurately in place during battery assembly.
Abstract: A process for producing a ceramic-base sinter, comprising sintering coated ceramic particles wherein the particles are prepared for sintering by the steps of: dispersing a powder of ceramic core particles in a gaseous atmosphere to form a mixture of a gas and particles in a powder of highly dispersed core particles; charging a precursor for the coat forming substance that has been formed via the vapor phase and/or a precursor for the coat forming substance in a vapor-phase state and the mixture of the gas and the powder of highly dispersed core particles that have a predetermined dispersity according to the average diameter of the core particles in a coating start region of a coating space; coating the surfaces of the core particles with the coat forming substance by allowing the precursor to contact and/or impinge against the core particles; shaping and sintering the thus coated ceramic core particles or a mixture containing them under appropriate sintering conditions.
Abstract: A method of optical enantiomer resolution by preferential crystallization involves entering, each time crystallization starts, the two-phase domain containing excess enantiomer and the saturated solution, and cooling according to a well-defined kinetic schedule. A racemic mixture of fine particle size is added to the mother liquors obtained after harvesting the crystals, the mother liquors then being heated to a temperature lower than that of homogenization of the solution so that excess enantiomer is present only in a solid state in equilibrium with the solution. Further cooling produces the other enantiomer and completes the cycle of operations which may then be carried out repetitively.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a process for improving the charging and discharging capacity of storage batteries at low temperatures. The improvement in the charging and discharging of storage batteries is accomplished by raising their temperature, using for this purpose the energy stored in the batteries. The process is conducted in such a way that the temperature and at least one value characterizing the state of charge are measured before the beginning of the heating and during the heating and the storage battery is discharged through an electrical component introducing thermal energy into it, at which time the discharge is terminated when either the target loadability in the discharging or charging was achieved or the state of charge decreases below a threshold value.
