  • Patent number: 4576713
Abstract: A multiple deck screening machine wherein the feed material is divided into separate equal fractions on a rubble screen deck and scalp screen decks. Each deck includes downwardly slanting distribution panels having serrated lower edges. Particulate flow over the serrated edges is divided into separate fractions. Each adjacent fraction passes into a different parallel vertical channel which serves a particular screen deck via a chute. The chutes and channels extend the full width of the screens. Flow across the serrated edges is separated due to the notches and tongues and upstanding dividers along the common edge to each notch and tongues. Each notch and tooth of the rubble screen deck is disposed in juxtaposition to an opposed tongues and notch respectively so that excess flow over a tongues may pass over its channel into the channel of the opposed notch. The rubble screen deck including a pair of downwardly and inwardly inclined distribution panels which oppose each other and define a flow gap therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4569408
Abstract: A portable scale for weighing animals and the like. A weighing platform is suspended on top of two floating crossbar assemblies which are pivotally mounted to opposing edges of a rectangular wheeled base. Each crossbar assembly includes a lever member extending across the rectangular base toward the other lever. The levers are pivotally linked together at the center of the rectangular base such that weight applied to either crossbar assembly from the platform is transmitted to one of the levers which extends beyond the rectangular base. Downward motion of such lever is converted to a weight by a balance or load cell weighing mechanism. A weighing enclosure or basket is provided on top of the platform to confine animals therewithin during weighing.

  • Patent number: 4565904
Abstract: In-the-ear type hearing aid devices having means for receiving and amplifying sound external to the ear are improved by the addition of a handle which aids in the removal of the device from an ear. The handle includes an elongated member which is preferably hingedly mounted to the faceplate portion of the hearing aid device. The free end of the elongated member is enlarged and may be grasped by a hand to facilitate removal of the device from an ear. Preferably, the device includes cooperating detent members which normally holds the handle in a closed, minimally projecting configuration.

  • Patent number: 4528445
Abstract: This invention is directed to an optical card reader in which the cards to be read have a format arranged in columns and rows. A row of timing marks or slots is formed in the card for each column of data. The card is driven past a read head block that directs the light to the card in which the reflected light is received through a shaped aperture or orifice so that a positive indication of the marked area is detected. The signal is applied to an operational amplifier for further treatment. There are a plurality of light sources and sensors transversely arranged in the read head block.

  • Patent number: 4523462
Abstract: A constant temperature anemometer having an enhanced frequency response. A sensor element is included within one leg of a bridge circuit with a feedback circuit being operatively connected to the bridge circuit. The bridge circuit frequency response is shaped by impedance elements connected in parallel with another leg of the bridge circuit. In a preferred embodiment, the impedance elements include serially connected resistance and capacitance elements.

  • Patent number: 4517081
Abstract: A dialyzer reuse machine comprising means for passing a series of liquid and gaseous fluids through the dialysate and blood compartments of the dialyzer at different flow rates according to a predetermined sequence for cleaning and disinfecting the dialyzer and means for accurately measuring the volume of the blood compartment upon completion of the dialyzer cleaning steps. Capacitive probe and load cell embodiments of the volume measuring means are disclosed. A specially designed jet pump permits a pressure leak test and dilution of stock chemicals to be performed using only tap water pressure as a source of motive force.

  • Patent number: 4517295
Abstract: Hyaluronic acid, a polysaccharide, is prepared in high yield from streptococcus bacteria by fermenting the bacteria under anaerobic conditions in a CO.sub.2 -enriched growth medium, separating the bacteria from the resulting broth and isolating the hyaluronic acid from the remaining constituents of the broth. The bacteria may be grown free of endotoxins by filtering all ingredients through a 10K Millipore.RTM. filter prior to inoculation of the medium and subsequently maintaining pyrogen-free conditions. Separation of the microorganisms from the polysaccharide is facilitated by killing the bacteria with trichloroacetic acid. After removal of the bacterial cells and concentration of the higher molecular weight fermentation products, the hyaluronic acid is isolated and purified by precipitation, resuspension and reprecipitation.
