  • Patent number: 4510058
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new type of chromatography technique, referred to as dynamic column chromatography, for separation of one or more compounds present in a solution, which is characterized by the existence of a moving solid adsorbent bed. According to the invention, the chromatographic system comprises a piston having at its bottom a sealing element and a longitudinal channel containing the adsorbent between two barriers and a test tube having at its bottom a multiple way valve. By pushing the piston into the test tube, the desired eluent which was prior forced through said valve is entering under intrinsic pressure of the closed system through the channel moving the adsorbed compounds to be separated between said barriers, the solution obtained going out through a nozzle located at one of the end parts of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4510068
Abstract: Disclosed are novel N-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids and N,N-Bis-(hydroxy-methyl)-1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids, preferably N-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, N,N-Bis-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, and their water-soluble salts. Also disclosed is a method for preparing these compounds by reacting the corresponding 1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids with formaldehyde in an alkaline medium at elevated temperature. The new phosphonic acid compounds are excellent stabilizing agents for hydrogen peroxide-containing alkaline bleaching liquors, especially useful for bleaching cellulose fibers and blends thereof with synthetic fibers, such as polyester fibers.

  • Patent number: 4510120
Abstract: A mixing head for two reactive components, e.g. the components of a settable synthetic resin mixture, comprises a mixing chamber in which a plunger is shiftable to block and unblock the nozzle orifices and drive the reaction mixture from the chamber through an outlet. At least one of the nozzles is carried on a readily shifting slider which cooperates with a similarly shiftable obturating member to define a small premixing chamber, as desired, and deflect the mixture through at least 90.degree. within the mixing chamber. This system is especially effective for the mixing of reactive components which have hitherto been found to be difficult to mix with conventional mixing heads.

  • Patent number: 4509331
Abstract: In a turbocharged internal combustion engine, in order to optimize engine torque output spark timing control and boost pressure control are coordinated in such a manner that spark advance angle is adjusted only when the measured boost pressure equals a predetermined value and is allowed to vary only within a specified range advanced from a reference value derived from an empirical memory table on the basis of engine speed and boost pressure. When engine operating conditions are such that spark advance angle would fall outside of the specified range, spark advance angle is then held at the empirical value and boost pressure is adjusted in order to optimize engine torque. The coordinated control system can also be designed to respond to exhaust gas temperature on a first-priority basis, i.e., when exhaust temperature is sensed to be dangerously high, boost pressure is reduced regardless of other engine conditions.

Abstract: Cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]octane derivatives corresponding to the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group or a cation and wherein R.sub.2 represents a cyclohexyl or an adamantyl group. In these compounds the phenyl radical may be arranged with respect to the double bond in the EZ- or in the E-configuration and at the carbon atom bearing the group R.sub.2 the molecule may have the RS- or S-configuration. The compounds are prepared by reacting compounds of the formulae ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 have the same meaning as above and R.sub.6 represents hydrogen or a protecting group. Medicaments containing these compounds act as inhibitors of blood platelet aggregation and (in higher doses) as blood pressure lowering agents.

  • Patent number: 4509419
Abstract: A worm press for mechanically separating liquid/solid mixtures comprising a feed region and a pin-barrel pressing region. The worm has at least one flight, each of which flights is interrupted so as to enable the flight to pass the stationary pins in the pin-barrel region. The downstream ends or points of the worm flight portions formed by the interruptions are specially shaped in order to increase considerably the strength and service-life of the highly stressed points. This is achieved by reducing the size of the thrust flank, so that the flank subtends an angle of from 20.degree. to 50.degree. relative to the line perpendicular to the worm axis. Desirably, the thus-angled profiled tip region of the flight portions are interchangeable.

  • Patent number: 4508454
Abstract: In an extruder, for extruding thermoplastic synthetic material or rubber or for use for pressing water out of a material, a screw rotates in a cylindrical chamber and helical conveying lands provided on the screw are interrupted at positions at which pins project into the chamber thereby forming grooves to receive the pins. To sense breakage of a pin, for example caused by metal particles in the extrudate, signal-generating means are provided in a blind bore in each pin, receipt of a signal from the signal generating means causing the screw to be stopped from rotating thereby to prevent further damage.

  • Patent number: 4507934
Abstract: In a refrigerating system comprising a compressor, a condenser, a capillary tube, and an evaporator, there are provided a check valve on an inlet side of the condenser for preventing a reverse flow of refrigerant from the condenser to the compressor, and a differential valve connected to a delivery side of the condenser. One port of the differential valve is connected with the delivery side of the compressor, so that the differential valve interrupts the flow of the refrigerant from the condenser to the capillary tube upon interruption of the operation of the compressor thereby to improve the operational efficiency of the refrigerating system when the system is started again.
