  • Patent number: 5816719
Abstract: A thermal printer for printing on a continuous print medium by ink transfer from a thermal print ribbon has a print head which is pivotally mounted and which is driven in an oscillatory pivotable motion by a stepper motor so as to repeatedly bring a linear array of energizable printing elements to bear against a platen roller. The print medium is fed through the printer between the platen roller and the print head. The instantaneous rate of travel of the print medium past the print head is substantially the same as the rate of feed of the print medium to the printer. The ribbon also travels between the print head and the platen roller, overlying the print medium, and is driven in such a manner that it travels at the same rate as the print medium during each printing operation up to a speed equivalent to the maximum printing speed of the print head.

  • Patent number: 5799855
Abstract: A piston velocity control and stability control system is provided for a combustion powered tool having a self contained combustion engine. The system includes a ring that may be adjusted relative to exit ports in a cylinder of the combustion engine. The ring includes openings which may be incrementally aligned between a completely exposed, and a substantially closed position relative to the exit ports. Displaced air volume within the cylinder exits through the exit ports as a piston advances down the cylinder, and the velocity of the piston will be greatest when the exit ports are completely exposed. User initiated reduction of the effective size of the exit ports by adjustment of the ring will reduce piston velocity as described per application. A nosepiece used to guide the driver blade and position the blade over a fastener is isolated from the cylinder so that the nosepiece remains stable relative to the workpiece upon combustion and until the driver blade strikes the fastener.

  • Patent number: 5797711
Abstract: A method of securing sheet material to a support by means of a screw threaded fastener having a driving head adapted to drivably cooperate with a driving tool such that operation of the tool causes rotation of the fastener and enables the fastener to be driven into the support. The method is characterized in that a hole is formed through the sheet material by means of a drill bit attached to the driving tool so as to drivably cooperate with that tool in the same manner as the fastener drivably cooperates with the tool. The drill bit is removed from the tool after formation of the hole and is replaced by a fastener which is then driven into the support by the same tool so as to secure the sheet material to the support. The drill bit is characterized in that it has a drilling feature in the form of a substantially flat plate extending outwardly on each of two opposite sides of the rotational axis of the drill bit.

  • Patent number: 5797534
Abstract: The apparatus comprises along the riser (10) a return chamber with a front space (30) and a rear space (22) adapted to communicate with the combustion chamber (15) following a first displacement of the riser (10). Once the two spaces (30, 22) have been brought into communication with one another, they are separated from one another and the riser (10) is returned towards the rear in the barrel (9). The two spaces (30) and (22) communicate with one another during the displacement of the riser (10) and the rear space (22) is separated from, the front space (30) following a second forward displacement of the riser (10). As the rear space (22) communicates with the exterior of the apparatus, the expansion of the combustion gases trapped in the front space (30) then returns the riser (10) towards the rear into the firing position. The apparatus serves to fix components to a support material.

  • Patent number: 5797246
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pre-stretched film, and to apparatus and a method of applying outer packaging to packages and to loads, optimized as a function of the structure and in particular the shape of the package or the load, in particular a palletized load, and also as a function of the transport and handling that the package or the load must be capable of withstanding without the outer packaging being dislocated. According to the invention, a stretchable film is stretched over at least one roller having a diameter that varies along its axis of rotation so as to form parallel longitudinal zones in the film that have different degrees of stretching. These zones make it possible, in particular, to track the external outlines of objects to be packaged and/or to provide locally-reinforced bonding, or on the contrary to present surfaces that are more relaxed. The present invention applies in particular to packaging and grouping together loads that may optionally be palletized.
