  • Patent number: 8332489
Abstract: An applet is used to deliver a persistent caching mechanism. An initial package of the applet incorporates a lightweight caching mechanism into its root set of classes. The remainder of the applet are divided into functional modules that can be subsequently downloaded as needed. The initial applet and caching mechanism is packaged and signed in a package using tools and procedures native to each platform; and each functional module is packaged and signed in a generic, platform-independent fashion for verification and loading by any of the various platform-dependent initial applet packages. In this way, the same functional module portions of the applet (which may comprise the bulk of the applet) are cached and loaded in a platform-independent manner without requiring or relying on any caching mechanism built into a platform such as a web browser or other applet execution environment.

  • Patent number: 8328644
Abstract: Systems and methods to provide asynchronous challenge gaming are described. In some embodiments, a method presents multiple character actions to a first user and a second user of a game, where each of the character actions defines a game action to be performed by a character in the game. The method receives a selection from the first user and the second user that identify multiple character actions. Additionally, the method receives sequence assignments from the first user and the second user that define a sequential order for performing the character actions. The game play between the first user and the second user is displayed to the first user based on the character actions and the sequence assignments, and without further interaction with the first user or the second user subsequent to receiving the character actions and the sequence assignments.

  • Patent number: 8328809
Abstract: A universal jig is compatible with bone plates of varying size, in which different plate sizes having different hole configurations. For example, a longer bone plate may have a first hole pattern along a given length thereof, while various shorter bone plates may have differing hole patterns along respective corresponding lengths. The universal jig includes a combination of hole groupings to provide a jig hole for each hole in the differing hole patterns of the longer and shorter plates, so that the universal jig is useable with a variety of bone plates having disparate hole patterns. For any given bone plate length and hole configuration, a masking cover may provided to attach to the jig. The masking cover masks off unused jig holes, so that only those jig holes intended for use with a particular bone plate are left exposed.
