  • Patent number: 6843700
Abstract: A rod and connector toy construction set, especially for use by young children. Connector elements, are formed with one or more rod-gripping sockets arranged radially with respect to a hub. The sockets are open at opposite sides, enabling lateral insertion and removal of rods. The connector elements, which are relatively large for easy handling by small children, are formed of a soft and pliant plastic material, to facilitate assembly and disassembly of rods with the connector elements by small hands. The rods generally are formed of a plastic material harder and stiffer than the connector material to accommodate easy handling of the rods during assembly and disassembly and to provide adequate strength in an assembled structure. The rods include enlarged, generally cylindrical end portions and adjacent neck portions of reduced diameter.

  • Patent number: 6832850
Abstract: A hot-mix asphalt manufacturing system includes a counter-flow rotary dryer having a combustion chamber, an inlet for dry ingredients, an outlet for hot-mix asphalt, and a pollution control device. The pollution control system includes a pre-filter, a cooling device and a fiber bed filter. Combustion gases from the combustion chamber are directed onto the ingredients for the hot-mix asphalt without substantial introduction of excess air or recirculated air and contact the hot-mix asphalt at a temperature substantially equal to the temperature of the combustion gases. The pollution control system removes substantially all particulates and hydrocarbons from the emissions from the hot-mix asphalt ingredients.

  • Patent number: 6823620
Abstract: A shelf-front label holder is provided with a specifically improved form of auxiliary sign clip along its upper front edge. The label holder is formed of a relatively rigid plastic material, and the sign clip includes a downwardly extending portion overlying the upper front margin of the label holder to accommodate upward insertion of special sign tags. A thin, flexible tongue-like retaining element extends across a lower portion of the sign clip and is adapted to be easily deflected by upward insertion of a paper sign but thereafter lightly grips the sign to hold it in place. A new process is also disclosed for the continuous extrusion of the new label holder product, enabling the continuous co-extrusion of the soft, flexible tongue-like retaining element together with the main section of the label holder.

  • Patent number: 6814215
Abstract: A support construction for an escalator or moving walkway comprises at least one framework element integrally constructed as a flat, non-profiled, cut plate. Multiple framework elements can be assembled into a unitary support construction. By virtue of the simple structure of the support construction. Wherein little welding work is needed, production time for the support construction is substantially reduced over conventional constructions.

  • Patent number: 6805551
Abstract: A self-extinguishing and relightable candle and a device for incorporation into a candle to make it self-extinguishing and relightable, are disclosed. The candle comprises a consumable candle body having a wick, and at least one of the extinguishing devices mounted upon the wick. The extinguishing device comprises a body having a vertical bore through which the wick extends, the diameter of the bore chosen to closely embrace the wick to deprive the wick of oxygen, and a non-flammable upper surface having a receptacle in connection with an upper end of the bore to maintain a quantity of candle material to serve as fuel for the wick when the level of the candle body has burned down to the upper surface. After the candle has burned down and is extinguished, the extinguishing device may be removed to expose a new wick portion to allow the candle to be lit. The extinguishing devices may be stacked upon the wick to provide for multiple successive extinguishments and relightings.

  • Patent number: 6805224
Abstract: An escalator brake torque monitoring apparatus comprises a brake having a brake arm with a mounting point for pivotally affixing the brake to a fixed element of the escalator. A torque sensor is mounted to the brake arm at the mounting point and is affixed to the fixed element. The torque sensor, which may preferably be torque-sensing bolt, generates an output proportional to torque generated by the brake during brake operation. The output of the sensor is compared to at least one reference value corresponding to a minimum acceptable level of torque. In the event the sensed torque is below the minimum, the escalator can be shut down to prevent restart until the failure condition is corrected.
