  • Patent number: 6059192
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wireless temperature monitoring system useful in reducing the risk of scalding to the users of a faucet. The system includes a temperature sensor/transmitter attached to the end of a faucet which communicates via a wireless link to a controller. The wireless link is particularly advantageous in the installation of the system on a faucet. One embodiment of the system includes a user detector for touchless control of the flow of water from a faucet. The invention may also provide a digital display with audio and/or visual alarms to indicate if a pre-set maximum temperature has been exceeded and a shut-off valve to interrupt flow of water to the faucet.

  • Patent number: 5954966
Abstract: The present invention relates to membranes useful in the separation of water from a solution containing volatile organic compounds and water. The membranes may be used in dehydrating an organic/water mixture to purify an organic when an organic is of interest or, alternatively, producing pure water from an organic/water mixture when clean water is of interest. The membranes include a hydrophilic base polymer, an optional pore-forming polymer and a surface modifying macromolecule (SMM) which imparts surface hydrophobicity to the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5906359
Abstract: An improvement in fence systems adjacent cattle gates is provided. Specifically, the fence system provides a fence post having a bumper system such that in the event that a vehicle passing the fence system hits the upright, the risk of damage to the fence system is minimized. In one form of the invention, the uprights at the end of the fence system are provided with a resilient rubber bumper attached to the upright which is preferably fabricated from discarded or used tires.

  • Patent number: 5033112
Abstract: A power and communication system for a building, and particularly a residential dwelling wherein there are provided a plurality of receptacles throughout the building, each connected by a cable to source, which may provide different voltages and either AC or DC and having a control interface for selectively switching the desired power to each cable individually. The control interface may also connect each cable to a selected signal transmission line, such as telephone, radio, TV, etc. The cable includes a pair of power conductors and a optical fiber which transmits to and receives from the control interface light signals informing the control interface what power or communication connection is required for a particular receptacle and possibly at the same time providing signal messages to each receptacle.
