Patent number: 8336344Abstract: A device is configured to be adjusted between open and closed conditions, and to securely engage a security slot of a portable computer when in the closed condition. The device defines an internal cavity that is configured to receive a portion of a cable-like computer lock when the device is in the closed condition. The device is further configured to extend the computer lock away from the housing of the portable computer. The device prevents the computer lock from obstructing access to surface features on the computer proximate to the security slot.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2009Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Mark Senatori

Patent number: 8324976Abstract: Circuitry is provided that closely emulates biological neural responses. Two astable multivibrator circuits (AMCs), each including a negative differential resistance device, are coupled in series-circuit relationship. Each AMC is characterized by a distinct voltage-dependant time constant. The circuitry exhibits oscillations in electrical current when subjected to a voltage equal to or greater than a threshold value. Various oscillating waveforms can be produced in accordance with voltages applied to the circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2011Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Julien Borghetti, Matthew D Pickett, Gilberto Medeiros Ribeiro, Wei Yi, Jianhua Yang, Minxian Max Zhang

Patent number: 8215759Abstract: Methods and means for imaging on paper media are provided. A data file of an image to be printed is analyzed. A pattern for a clear fluid is determined according to the analysis. The pattern of clear fluid is applied to a paper media traveling in a particular direction, wherein the pattern is generally elongated along the direction of travel. The pattern of clear fluid is defined by a maximum width that is generally equal to the maximum width of the image to be formed. One or more colored inks are applied such that the image is formed and is supported by the paper media. The paper media exhibits reduced cockle as a result of the pattern of clear fluid.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2011Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Company, L.P.Inventors: Mike Steed, Lluis Abello

Patent number: 8210424Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for solder bonding entities to solid materials. One or more through apertures are formed in a solid material. Solder paste is introduced into each through aperture. Respective entities having solderable surface features are disposed in overlying alignment with the through apertures. The arrangement is heated causing molten solder paste to wet the solderable surface features and the solid material. Cooling results in the electrical and mechanical bonding of the entities to the solid material. Devices having substantially planar form factors and without lead wires can be electrically and mechanically secured to a supporting conductive stratum.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2010Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Karl S Weibezahn

Patent number: 8194376Abstract: Storage device discharge means and methods are provided. Printer circuitry detects one or more anomalous operating conditions and asserts a switch, shunting storage capacitors to ground potential through a resistive load. Discharge of the storage capacitors protects inkjet firing resistors against damage that could otherwise result from the uncontrolled application of stored electrical energy.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2009Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Octavio Salazar

Patent number: 8138412Abstract: A flexible substrate layer having metallic bus-lines and connecting stitches is formed. A trace layer having electrical traces and thermal vias is also formed. The substrate layer and the trace layer are bonded together by way of respective thermal pathways and electrically interconnected. The resulting layer-wise assembly is configured to support and electrically interconnect an array of photovoltaic cells and to channel away heat during operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2009Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Karl S Weibezahn

Patent number: 8128195Abstract: Methods and means for wiping a page-wide print array are provided. An installable and removable cartridge includes a quantity of web material. The web material traverses a serpentine pathway and is driven by a motor such that fresh web material can be provided to a cleaning zone. The web material within the cleaning zone is wiped across the ink discharge surface of an array of printing dies to remove debris. Wiping action is performed perpendicular to a lengthwise aspect of the page-wide print array. Various embodiments of compact and effective cleaning mechanisms are thus provided in modular, replaceable forms.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2009Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Jeffrey T Hendricks, Gene D Jones

Patent number: 8076988Abstract: Circuitry and methods are provided. Voltage and current of an electrical load are detected, scaled and biased to derive respective voltage and current signals. Frequency-modulated signals corresponding to the voltage and current signals are respectively derived. The frequency-modulated signals are communicated between different electrical domains by way of optical isolation barriers. The frequency-modulated signals are processed to improve linearity and to time-correlate the signals to discrete samplings of the load voltage and current. Control of a printer or other device is performed using the processed signals.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2009Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: David E. Patent number: 8062066Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided directed to signal cabling. An illustrative cable includes first and second connectors. Each connector includes a plurality of electrical contacts supported by an insulator material. A plurality of distinct signaling conductors couples respective pairs of the electrical contacts. Each connector also includes a metallic shell continuously spanning an outer dimensional aspect of the connector. A flexible metallic shield is electrically bonded to the respective metallic shells and envelopes the signaling conductors, spanning a length-wise aspect of the cable. The signal propagation qualities of the cable are applicable to high-resolution video and other endeavors.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2010Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Chang-Cheng Hsieh
