  • Patent number: 6010895
Abstract: This invention is directed toward non-pathogenic human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) strains containing deletions in the nef gene and U3 region of the long terminal repeat (LTR). A blood donor infected with HIV-1 and a cohort of six blood or blood product recipients infected from this donor were identified. These individuals, who remained free of HIV-1-related disease with stable and normal CD4.sup.+ lymphocyte counts 10 to 14 years after infection, were termed long-term nonprogressors (LTNPs). The molecular characterization of HIV-1 sequences obtained from either virus isolates or patient peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of LTNPs identified similar deletions in the nef gene and in the region of overlap of nef and the U3 region of the LTR. Full-length sequencing of one isolate genome and amplification of selected HIV-1 genome regions from other cohort members revealed no other abnormalities of obvious functional significance.

  • Patent number: 6011955
Abstract: A radio selective call receiver includes a synchronous data detector for detecting synchronous data for each unit of a series of a predetermined number of data formed by dividing the transmitted signal into a plurality of parts. A time counter performs time setting and produces time information. A time information comparator compares the synchronous data from the synchronous data detector with the time information from the time counter to calculate an error, and the time counter is corrected on the basis of the error output of the time information comparator. A display displays a time correction interval menu comprising a plurality of different time intervals, and switches enable the selection of a specific time interval, after the expiration of which the time information of the time counter is corrected on a regular basis. This arrangement enables a selection of one of the plurality of different time intervals, to change the time interval after which the time information of the time counter is corrected.

  • Patent number: 6009078
Abstract: In an ATM switch device having a plurality of input ports and a plurality of output ports, a port buffer is arranged for each of the output ports and is given a minimum guaranteed value which represents the minimum number of output cells sent to each output port even when traffic congestion takes place at the other output ports. A total queue monitoring buffer is also arranged to monitor a total number of output cells which is equal to a total sum of the minimum guaranteed values determined for the respective output ports and is counted up only when the counts of the port buffers exceed the minimum guaranteed values. With this structure, it is possible to detect traffic congestion all over the ATM switch device by the total queue monitoring buffer and to assure delivery of the output cells equal to the minimum guaranteed value. Each minimum guaranteed value may be determined for each service class and a multicast cell.

  • Patent number: 6008672
Abstract: An input signal reading circuit includes an up-down counter receiving an input signal and a sampling clock to count up the samplig clock when the input signal is at a high level and to count down the sampling clock when the input signal is at a low level. The up-down counter outputs an underflow signal when a count value of the up-down counter becomes zero. A comparator compares the count value of the up-down counter with a reference value held in a register, to generate a coincidence signal when the count value of the up-down counter becomes coincident with the reference value. A RS flipflop is set by the coincidence signal to bring the read-out signal into a high level, and is reset by the underflow signal to bring the read-out signal into a low level.

  • Patent number: 6009437
Abstract: A method for generating a complete scene structure from a video sequence that provides incomplete data. The method has a first step of building a first matrix consisting of point locations from a motion sequence by acquiring a sequence of images of a fixed scene using a moving camera; identifying and tracking point features through the sequence; and using the coordinates of the features to build the first matrix with some missing elements where some features are not present in some images. In a second step an approximate solution is built by selecting triples of columns from the first matrix; forming their nullspaces into a second matrix; and taking the three smallest components of the second matrix. In a third step, an iterative algorithm is applied to the three smallest components to build a third matrix and to improve the estimate. Lastly, in a fourth step the third matrix is decomposed to determine the complete scene structure.

  • Patent number: 6005643
Abstract: A method for embedding additional information into a video movie without substantially having an influence on the compression efficiency of the video movie and also without substantially causing degradation of the picture quality. Particularly, the method of the present invention involves specifying at least one embedding region in the frame of the video movie for embedding information, and determining a type of interframe prediction of the embedding region in correspondence with information to be embedded by referring to an embedding rule where a content of data to be embedded is caused to correspond to the type of interframe prediction of the embedding region. It is desirable that the frame in which the embedding region exists is a bidirectionally predictive-coded frame.

  • Patent number: 6005936
Abstract: A digital camera for embedding authentication information to detect the identity of a photographed image into an image. By supplying the authentication information integrally with image data, the verifier is enabled to verify the image data without saving the authentication information. Particularly, by converting the light inputted through an optical system to an electric signal, a CCD outputs an analog signal of an image which is converted to a digital signal. In response to the digital signal of the image, a digital camera having a region dividing unit divides the digital image into first and second regions. Authentication information is generated from data in the first region, which information is then encrypted. The encrypted authentication information is embedded into the second image region. The first and second image regions are then combined.
