Abstract: A method and computer graphical user interface tool for generating and/or modifying character font data to be suitable for low-resolution display are provided. The method generally includes four steps. First, a set of characters to be displayed on a low-resolution display is received. Each character is formed with one or more strokes/glyphs, and all of the strokes/glyphs are represented by a set of basic strokes/glyphs, wherein each basic stroke/glyph is defined by key points and width values. Second, the received set of characters is projected on a low-resolution pixel matrix screen having two-dimensional coordinates and corresponding to the low-resolution display. Third, each stroke/glyph forming the set of characters is redefined, with key points and/or width values of the stroke/glyph are adjusted according to predefined rules, to thereby form a redefined set of characters. Fourth, the redefined set of characters are rendered according to predefined rendering criteria.
Abstract: An optical disk drive capable of reproducing data even when warpage is present in an optical disk. A system controller of the optical disk drive reproduces data by setting a maximum speed in accordance with the type of an optical disk, an amount of side-to-side runout, or the like. In the meantime, when a read error arises as a result of trial reproduction being performed at an outer radius of the disk at startup, warpage is determined to be present in the optical disk, and a limitation on the maximum speed is raised. The rotational speed is set to allowable maximum speed of the optical disk drive, and warpage is corrected by means of centrifugal force. When reproduction becomes impracticable for reasons of meandering of a tack, or the like, during the course of reproduction of data, the rotational speed is decreased, to thus perform a retry.
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for manufacturing a multi-layered unit for a multi-layered ceramic electronic component which can reliably prevent short circuit failure from occurring in a multi-layered ceramic electronic component and form an electrode layer in a desired manner.
Abstract: The process comprises the steps of forming, on top of a semiconductor material wafer, a holed mask having a lattice structure and comprising a plurality of openings each having a substantially square shape and a side with an inclination of 45° with respect to the flat of the wafer; carrying out an anisotropic etch in TMAH of the wafer, using said holed mask, thus forming a cavity, the cross section of which has the shape of an upside-down isosceles trapezium; and carrying out a chemical vapor deposition using TEOS, thus forming a TEOS layer which completely closes the openings of the holed mask and defines a diaphragm overlying the cavity and on which a suspended integrated structure can subsequently be manufactured.

Abstract: An independent checkpointing method using a memory checkpoint on a distributed system that includes a message transmission routine, a message processing routine, and a periodical checkpoint routine. The message transmission routine adds a self checkpoint number to a message to be transmitted when a current process tries to send a message to another process. The message processing routine performs a memory checkpoint and processes a message in reference to a checkpoint number of a transmission process, a checkpoint number of the current process, a memory checkpoint flag, and a message transmission flag when a message is received from a process. The periodical checkpoint routine performs a checkpoint that records a necessary state information for recovery against faults periodically in reference to the memory checkpoint flag.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sewing and cutting layered cloth wherein a sewing guide formed of at least semi-rigid, compliant material is used to guide the stitching of parallel lines to create channels within which the sewing guide is placed to act as a cutting mat when cutting the layers of fabric above the sewing guide, such as with a rotary cutting tool.
