  • Patent number: 4664192
Abstract: In drilling a well, sections of casing are run down a borehole, preferably with a float shoe at the lower end which is equipped with a double valve enabling the casing to fill with drilling mud both while the casing is moving down and also while it is stationary. Within the casing is a baffle collar which defines a socket for a latching dart carried by a plug. The plug and dart are driven down to the collar, when the pumping of cement into the casing has been completed, by a launching dart which also closes the passageway through the plug.

  • Patent number: 4664458
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an elongated insulator block having a plurality of transverse channels extending around the front, upper and lower sides thereof and at least partially around a rear side thereof. A plurality of electrically conductive resilient contacts are disposed in the channels. Each contact has a generally C-shaped profile and a generally U-shaped projection in an intermediate portion thereof. Each contact is partially bifurcated on opposite sides of the intermediate portion along a longitudinal dimension of the contact, thereby defining upper and lower pairs of contact arms. The channels are contoured to substantially the shape of the contacts, including a generally U-shaped indentation slightly larger in dimension than the U-shaped projection to permit each contact to float in its respective channel.

  • Patent number: 4664814
Abstract: A filter assembly is formed by arranging a large number of substantially annular, thin filter elements disposed around a radially pervious and hollow core so that a major portion of the core is surrounded by the filter elements. Slots between the filter elements allow passage of the liquid to be filtered. The filter assembly is enclosed in a closed vessel with the interior of the core being in communication with an outlet line. An initial axial pressure is established on the filter elements by a spring which acts on an end support engaging the end one of the filter elements. The axial pressure on the filter elements is controlled by controlling pressure in the closed vessel and thus the size of the slots is controlled to establish the desired filtering degree of the filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 4658477
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of making a hydrophilic cotton fleece. The method is characterized in that during the operations of boiling and bleaching in the autoclave, treatment liquids are made to circulate radially through the turns of the coil in such a manner that a differential pressure is established between the liquid entering the coil and the liquid leaving the coil as a result of load losses due to the difficulty which the liquid experiences in passing through the coil. The invention is applied to the manufacture of a cotton fleece with improved adherence.

  • Patent number: 4658529
Abstract: A firing pin safety mechanism for a weapon such as a pistol. An inertia firing pin is provided with an annular groove. The firing pin is spring loaded in the firing pin channel of the pistol slide. The safety is provided with a rib canted toward the hammer side of the firing pin. The safety is slidable between "on" and "off" positions within a safety channel which intersects the firing pin channel. When the safety is moved to the "on" position, the rib enters the firing pin groove and cams the firing pin so as to retract and lock the pin in a sheathed position within the slide. In the sheathed position, the firing pin can neither contact the cartridge nor be contacted by the weapon hammer. When the safety is moved to the "off" position, the rib clears the firing pin, and the hammer end of the firing pin is exposed. The firing pin is then free to be operated by the weapon hammer to strike the cartridge.
