Abstract: An enclosed insulator assembly has a generally cylindrical polysiloxane body, a tubular Durethan® core with upper and lower terminals, Multilam™ contacts within the terminals, an arc-quenching tube, and a manually removable handle. Entrance holes in the body accommodate the coupling of external cables to the terminals. A threaded cylinder positioned on the handle's interior accommodates one of an interchangeable cutout fuse tube assembly and disconnect tube assembly and permits the assembly to be inserted into the core as the handle is positioned on the body. Both assemblies have top and bottom fittings with O-rings that prevent weather corrosion between the fittings and terminals. A grooved load interrupter is attached to the bottom fitting of the assemblies to suppress arcing when the assembly is pulled out from the body.
Abstract: A catheter is disclosed comprising a first generally tubular body segment formed about a generally first longitudinally-extending axis and having an outer diameter of no more than approximately 5 fr; and a second generally tubular body segment formed about a second axis and having an outer diameter of no more than approximately 4 fr, the first and second axes intersecting at an acute angle. Preferably, the catheter additionally includes a third generally tubular body segment formed about a third axis and having an outer diameter of no more than approximately 4 fr, the third axis intersecting the second axis at a second acute angle. Preferably, the sum of the two intersection angles is approximately 90°. In addition, the intersection angle of the first and second axes is preferably in the range of approximately 30°.
Abstract: An automatic turn-off switch responsive to displacement of a movable element placed on a seat which resides on the top of a chute located with an opening at the bottom immediately adjacent to a pivotal lever. A spring-loaded latch is normally biased in a contracted condition. An automatic release is cooperatively carried between the spring latch and the lever whereby displacement of the mechanical movable element causes the release to disconnect from the contracted latch, whereby the latch is released for forcible engagement with a conventional on/off switch in a circuit breaker box. When the circuit breaker switch is in the “on” position, the released latch engages the switch and causes the switch to move to its “off” position, terminating all electrical communication with the main power source.
Abstract: A kettlebell is disclosed herein having, in its preferred embodiment, a pair of oppositely-facing, generally frustum-shaped weightplates disposed about a first axis that is perpendicular to the axis of its handle. The frustum shape reduces the force of impact against the user's forearm during certain exercise movements. The preferred handle includes places which can be held between the user's thumb and remaining fingers for improved control during other exercise movements.

Abstract: An abrasivejet cutting head is disclosed that includes a valve assembly for preventing back-flow to the abrasive hopper of abrasive-laden fluid from the cutting head when the discharge path for the abrasivejet becomes clogged or otherwise blocked. The valve assembly is positioned within the abrasive line to conduct abrasive from the hopper towards the abrasivejet nozzle. The valve assembly further includes a discharge path which is sealed off from the abrasivejet nozzle during normal operation in response to the relatively lower pressure in the abrasive jet nozzle that results from the flowing fluid therein. If the jet path is blocked or competed in a manner that causes a backflow of the abrasive-laden slurry therein, the cessation of low pressure permits the backflowing slurry to exit via the discharge path and bypass the hopper, substantially avoiding the downtime previously required to clean the hopper.
Abstract: A clock with a seemingly gravity-defying time-indicating element adjacent a substantially vertically disposed dial comprises a magnetic guide element positioned behind the dial for movement around the dial as a function of time, and a magnetically responsive time-indicating element such as a metallic-appearing sphere positioned for viewer visibility in front of the dial. The time-indicating element is magnetically coupled to the guide element for movement therewith around the front of the dial in apparent defiance of gravity to indicate the time without becoming decoupled from the guide element.
Abstract: A modular rack for storing objects. Each rack element has forward, rear, and side walls. The rack elements are configured to have a plurality of protrusions and recessions so that the protrusions and recessions of a rack element slideably interlock with complementary recessions and protrusions of other rack elements of generally similar appearance, so that the rack elements may be assembled into a modular rack without the need of tools or external fastening elements.

Abstract: In a power inverter, ripple current and bulk filtering are provided by a high-current, high-microfarad film capacitor arrangement; there is no separate snubber capacitor section. In an alternative embodiment, a small high-frequency film capacitor is connected in parallel with the bulk film capacitor arrangement, thereby increasing the operating range of the circuit.
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a ballast circuit, comprising three sections: an input power section that receives a line AC signal as an input and provides a DC signal as an output; a pre-regulator section that conditions the DC signal; and a lamp driver section that drives a gas discharge lamp load. The pre-regulator section includes a transformer with an input winding, an output winding, and a current sense winding. The input winding receives the DC signal provided by the input power section. The output winding is connected in a flyback configuration with a flyback blocking diode, a bulk storage capacitor, and an output terminal for the conditioned DC signal. The current sense winding generates a signal proportional to the level of the transformer current. The transformer current is controlled by a flyback switch. A resonant capacitor is connected between the flyback switch input and ground, the resonant capacitor and the transformer forming a resonant circuit.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and circuit for controlling the flow of current through a load. In a preferred embodiment, an oscillator generates a pulse signal of constant frequency. A pulse width modulator adjusts the duty cycle of the pulse signal in response to a dimming level signal input indicative of the desired level of current flow through the load. A converter receives the pulse signal as an input and converts it into an AC signal, the frequency of which follows the frequency of the pulse signal and the symmetry of which varies with the duty cycle of the pulse signal. The load is connected into a resonant circuit tuned such that a change in the symmetry of the AC signal changes the level of current flowing through the load.

Abstract: The present invention provides a low-cost power factor corrected electronic ballast circuit. A preferred embodiment includes a discontinuous conduction mode boost power factor correction circuit that is controlled with a simple pulse-width modulator (PWM) circuit comprising a few discrete components instead of an integrated circuit. The PWM circuit utilizes a reference waveform signal derived from the ballast inverter. The reference waveform is combined with a feedback signal to create a composite signal that is compared with a reference voltage to create a pulse-width-modulated signal. The feedback signal is used to regulate the bulk DC voltage. In an alternative embodiment, a feedforward signal that is proportional to the time-varying level of the rectified line voltage is added to the reference waveform and the feedback signal, and serves to modulate the pulse width of the boost circuit in a manner that reduces the harmonic distortion of the input current.
