  • Patent number: 3987510
Abstract: An article of footwear and a method of making the same which comprises forming a length of elastic webbing into a ringlet and embedding the lower longer edge of the "upper" so formed in elastomeric composition which takes a set at low temperature to form a unitary sole and heel inseparably bonded to the elastic upper. If the sole is made to be worn over athletic shoes of the type equipped with spikes or cleats, the interior of the sole is molded to provide cavities accommodating such spikes or cleats. The rims of these cavities bear against and support the rim areas of the sole and heel of an athletic shoe thereby preventing the spikes from penetrating the sole of the footwear. The elastic webbing is tailored to shape merely by forming a dart crosswise of the midportion of the toe end thereof.

  • Patent number: 3988706
Abstract: A fast-action solenoid actuating mechanism operable against high opposing loads and wherein the load being moved is connected to the solenoid armature by energy storing means effective to store increasing amounts of energy as the armature moves toward its retracted position. The energy storing means typically comprises a plurality of springs having very substantially differing spring rates and so arranged that initial movement of the armature is opposed primarily by the lower rate spring means and thereafter by the higher rate spring means until the accumulated stored energy together with the magnetic energy exceeds a required load operating force as the armature moves into its fully retracted position. All stored energy is automatically released during the final approach to retracted position and the armature is free to return to its extended position when the solenoid is de-energized. The mechanism may be utilized to operate a wide variety of devices such as switches, relays, valves, etc.

  • Patent number: 3986312
Abstract: A demountable wall assembly utilizing uniquely formed studs of magnetic material having wide, flat flanges along the edge thereof equipped with low-height, outturned tang means therealong. The tang means cooperate with magnetized strips secured to the rear of wall plaques to hold the plaques against planar movement while the strips are held magnetically seated against the stud flanges. The studs are secured to headers crosswise of their opposite ends. A first finish strip secured to one header embraces and conceals the adjacent end edges of the plaques, and a second finish strip conceals fastener means holding the other plaque ends to the second header.

  • Patent number: 3985331
Abstract: A high resolution micro-metering valve having a non-rotary needle valve supported between a pair of calibrated coil springs of widely different spring rates. The lower rate spring is axially adjustable in minute increments by the valve actuator to vary the loading on the higher rate spring in an amount proportional to the ratio of the two spring rates. The valve actuator is free of all backlash and all relative movement with the valve packing is restricted to non-rotary axial movement. The valve proper can be contoured at will to provide linear or non-linear flow characteristics without need for any change in either of the two coil springs.

  • Patent number: 3985303
Abstract: A hydromassage device for use in jetting air and pressurized water into a pool of water and including eyeball means readily adjustable at the user's option to direct the issuing jet in different directions. Existing non-adjustable hydromassage devices can be retrofitted with the adjustable eyeball, or the adjustable eyeball may be mounted directly in a socket of the main body of the massage device as manufactured.

  • Patent number: 3949533
Abstract: A modular ceiling system utilizing a plurality of stringers interlocked with one another to provide a rectangularly celled, high strength, non-warping suspended ceiling grid assembly. The T-shaped extruded aluminum stringer employed in the grid assembly has a channel-shaped T-head designed to support acoustical ceiling tiles flush with the lower edge of the stringers. The main stringers are arranged parallel to one another and interlocked to secondary stringers to provide a grid of four sided cells. Part of the secondary stringers have the same length as one side of a single cell and others are of double that length. The double length secondary stringers are constructed to have a snug snap-lock joint with the main stringers whereas the single length secondary stringers have a snug, non-locking fit between the mid-portions of the double length stringers.

  • Patent number: 3948457
Abstract: An improved microfilm takeup reel designed for foolproof use on widely differing film reader constructions. The reel includes provision safeguarding against vexatious misuse practices commonplace in libraries and the like. The improved takeup reel remains fixed to a takeup arbor of a reader thereby making it mandatory to rewind the reel onto its original supply reel and preventing return of the film to storage while wound backwardly. The improved film handling facility also includes simple means for quickly attaching a film leader to the takeup reel without interfering with the use of the film with a conventional takeup reel.

  • Patent number: 3942479
Abstract: A combined ventilator and fluent material feeder for avian including air recirculating and conditioning means. The ventilating and feeder units include self-feeders for both loose food material and drinking water. Each typically includes a trough encircling a storage chamber as well as an air distributor for supplying ventilating air across the floor and outwardly from beneath the feeding troughs as used dirt-laden air is withdrawn from above the feeding troughs.

  • Patent number: 3937247
Abstract: A high pressure, high temperature, seatless cut-off valve particularly suitable for use with solid materials. The construction employs a sleeve valve reciprocable past aligned ports between concentric tubular housing members under conditions wherein the pressure conditions acting on the valve are fully neutralized at all times. Pressure neutralizing is achieved by passageway means interconnecting chambers embracing the end portions of the sleeve valve and encircling the valve in the area of its flow port and between sets of sealing rings to either axial side of this port. All surfaces contacted by the flowing fluid are preferably lined with protective laminate such as thick ceramic having a protective skin of tough abrasion resistant alloy.

  • Patent number: 3932942
Abstract: A dressmaker's pattern kit and method for making a garment of wearing apparel decorated with selected portions of lace and the like decorative material appliqued to the garment before assembly of the garment. The pattern kit includes a pattern sheet imprinted with an image of strip lace or the like decorative material with severance lines clearly marked thereon to guide the seamstress in cutting the lace into individual components. Likewise the pattern components for the garment are imprinted with identified and clearly outlined components of the lace to guide the seamstress in pinning the lace to the garment material preparatory to appliqueing the same in place. Additionally, the kit may include a strip of the uncut lace as well as a set of applique accessories a selected one of which is attachable to a sewing machine in lieu of the usual pressure foot.
