  • Patent number: 6836216
Abstract: An electronic article surveillance system is disclosed. The system utilizes interaction between magnetic fields generated by a plurality of antennae elements to generate magnetic field in different orientations within an interrogation zone. The antenna elements are fed in different phases in accordance to phase patterns to generate the different orientations. A novel receiving antenna construction for receiving the perturbations caused by re-magnetization of a marker within the interrogation zone is also disclosed. The antenna construction comprises a receiving coil at a certain distance from the transmitting coil, and a compensating coil closer to a transmitting coil. A method for utilizing the system is also presented.

  • Patent number: 6718267
Abstract: When a pipeline is used as a medium for data transmission using a VLP or ELF Electro-magnetic signal the presence of corrosion effects on the pipeline lead to noise signals appearing in the received data signal. The present invention relates to a method of separating out this noise signal and analyzing it to determine the corrosion status of the pipeline. Both the type and location of the corrosion effect can be determined in this way.

  • Patent number: 6566626
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating colored images of at least one color within a light-sensitive glass sample. The glass sample contains light-sensitive chemical components that acquire at least one of a multiplicity of colors in response to actinic radiation and subsequent heating to a temperature that causes color to appear. The method comprises focusing a pulsed laser beam to a target location within the glass, irradiating a plurality of pulses focused in the target location within the glass sample, thus generating a zone of increased opacity to the visible light at the target location and a resultant localized actinic radiation at that zone, displacing the focus point of the laser beam and the glass sample relative to each other by the displacing device in a predetermined manner so as to produce a plurality of zones of increased opacity that form an image, and heating of the sample to a temperature that causes color to appear at the zones of increased opacity.

  • Patent number: 6526599
Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing metered amount of liquid into a toilet cistern, comprising a basin adapted to receive a metered amount of dispensable liquid received from a container via a discharge spout. An airlock prevents further discharge of liquid above a predetermined amount in the basin when the discharge spout is covered by the dispensable liquid. A siphon inlet is in liquid communication with the metered amount in the basin, and the siphon outlet is in liquid communications with the cistern water at quiescent times. Upon flush, the siphon siphons out the dispensable liquid in the basin, breaking the airlock, and allowing a new metered amount of dispensable liquid to flow to the basin, ready for next flush.

  • Patent number: 6409692
Abstract: An orthopedic guide to aid in donning an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is disclosed comprising an L-shaped channel and a rocker to allow the L-shaped channel to smoothly rotate generally about the L-shape joint when tilted. The horizontal portion of the L is weighted to urge the device to an upright position when at rest. A shoe and an AFO are placed in the L-shaped channel and a patient foot uses the vertical portion of the L to guide the patient foot into the shoe. In use the device tilts to create a natural rotation movement for the foot insertion, and places the foot and guides it in a more comfortable tilted position. A shoe tongue retainer clip is also disclosed to allow further ease in donning the shoe and AFO by enlarging the shoe opening and keeping the tongue out of the way.

  • Patent number: 6298850
Abstract: A device for securing a nasal cannula to a patient's head is disclosed. The device utilizes a thin round elastic band placed behind the patient's head and is attached to the cannula gas supply tube by cord couplers. The cord couplers are slidably attached to the gas supply tubes to allow fast and easy adjustment to size. The device is light, comfortable, inexpensive and simple to use. It prevents painful hair entanglement and allows single handed deployment and adjustment of a nasal cannula, while affording secured placement of the cannula during patient movement or sleep. Additionally, a nosepiece having a downwardly oriented U shape or arcuate fold in its center portion is disclose to prevent the cannula nosepiece from exerting excessive pressure against the patient's septum. A method of use is also disclosed.
