  • Patent number: 7793127
Abstract: In some embodiments, the invention involves efficiently boot and resume a machine from a low power state. In at least one embodiment, the present invention saves the processor state(s) in a buffer that allows fast access upon a resume from sleep mode. When a sleep (S3 mode) is initiated in a platform, processor state context is saved in a system reserved buffer that does not allow access to the operating system. The firmware (EFI) has access to the buffer and upon a resume, the processor context(s) are restored from a fast buffer. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 7788713
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for virtualized proxy services are disclosed herein. Specifically, on one embodiment, a virtual proxy may be implemented in a virtual machine host. The virtual proxy may reside within a dedicated or shared virtual partition and may include a set of access restrictions. In one embodiment, a network including virtual machine hosts having virtual proxies may also provide additional peer-to-peer services. More specifically, a virtual proxy on a virtual host may be configured to broadcast/multicast content requests to other virtual hosts on the network prior to accessing the content from a remote location. If the content has previously been downloaded by another virtual host on the network, the virtual proxy on the requesting host may copy the content from the peer virtual host, instead of downloading the content from the remote location again. A variety of security measures may be implemented in one embodiment to ensure data integrity.

  • Patent number: 7698584
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system to enable a data processing device to operate while seemingly “off”. According to one embodiment, a data processing device is configured to recognize a new system state, i.e., Visual Off. On such a data processing device, when the power button is pressed, the request to turn off the device is intercepted by a module and the device is transitioned to a Visual Off state. To the user, this transition appears instantaneous. During the transition, audible and visual indicators on the data processing device and on human interactive devices (“HID devices”) coupled to the data processing device may be turned off and/or disabled. While in the Visual Off state, the device may be fully operational, or in an alternate embodiment, the device may be placed in a low power state. When the user presses the power button again to “wake up” the data processing device, the device may transition from Visual Off into an “on” state (“Visual On”), i.e.

  • Patent number: 7580396
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system which enable a mobile node to request dynamic allocation of a home address and to maintain that home address when roaming between a home subnet and a foreign subnet. According to one embodiment, the mobile node may acquire a home address from its home agent by using a Network Access Identifier (“NAI”) extension in a registration request. The mobile node may send out this registration request when it first starts up, regardless of whether it is on its home subnet or a foreign subnet. Additionally, the mobile node may set a bit in the registration request to inform the home agent that it is on its home network. If the bit is not set, the home agent may deduce that the mobile node is on a foreign network. In either instance, the mobile node may continue to use its originally acquired home address.

  • Patent number: 7555519
Abstract: An algorithm for encoded electronic mail is disclosed whereby the meta-data of the email and the files that represent the email data are combined into a single file. Encoding, via a header, is then used to monitor the changes to the meta-data and the location of the actual data within the file. The format of the combined file may be, but is not limited to, a fixed-sized header that contains links to the information within the file, followed by the actual email data, followed by the variable meta-data information. The header links include a link to the start of the email data, a link to the email sender, and a link to the email receivers. All the meta-data information is referenced, but not necessarily stored, in the header. The system is designed to maximize the use of resources including, but not limited to, memory, disk space, file descriptors, and locks.

  • Patent number: 7535878
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system provide reliable access to a mobile node. Requests for care of addresses (COAs) are intercepted and the mobile node hostnames in the requests are replaced with alternative configured names. These altered requests are then passed down the network stack. Similarly, replies to the COA requests are also intercepted and the alternative configured names may be replaced with the mobile node hostnames. These replies may then be passed up the network stack. A mobile IP registration request extension may be used to create a mapping entry in a Domain Name Services (DNS) server between the mobile node hostname and the mobile node home address. This mapping entry ensures that the mobile node is consistently reachable via its hostname.

  • Patent number: 7440466
Abstract: Nodes on a wide area network (“WAN”) such as the Internet may communicate with multiple Internet Protocol Version 6 (“IPv6”) nodes on a private network despite the lack of domain name service (“DNS”) server support. The nodes on the private network may obtain router advertisements and utilize this information to generate IPv6 addresses (6-to-4 addresses). A detection process may detect these IPv6 addresses and create web pages including these addresses. When the nodes on the WAN attempt to reach the private nodes using an address of the gateway separating the WAN from the private network, the nodes may instead reach the web pages created by the detection process. These web pages may redirect the nodes to communicate with each of the private nodes using their respective IPv6 addresses.
