Patent number: 5983887Abstract: A portable, collapsible reflector oven useful for cooking by an open fire is provided. The inventive apparatus is constructed as a single unit in that all of the parts of the reflector oven are connected to one another to prevent part loss. The reflector oven has a stabilizing frame to which the reflector panels and supporting panels are pivotally attached. In a preferred embodiment, the reflector oven is provided with a shelf and a shelf suspension system. The shelf suspension system automatically positions the shelf correctly when the reflector oven is unfolded from a collapsed position. In the most preferred embodiment, the reflector oven has a latching system which acts to stabilize the reflector oven against collapse while the reflactor oven is in the open position.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1999Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Inventor: Edward T. Patent number: 5957457Abstract: A Bingo-type game, a method of playing a Bingo-type game and a game board for playing such a game are provided. The Bingo-type game enhances the enjoyment of participants at a ceremony or party which, by social convention, requires the participants to observe while a guest-of-honor opens presents. The game board is provided with a series of shapes aligned in rows which form a matrix. Each shape has the name of a gift item likely to be opened imprinted thereon. The participants are each provided with a game board having a unique arrangement of the names of a determined list of gift items that are likely to be opened and a means of marking the game board. The names from the list of items are equal to the number of shapes in the matrix. When the guest-of-honor opens a present which corresponds to a name imprinted on a participant's game board, the participant marks it off.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Inventor: Eileen J. Patent number: 5860198Abstract: An anchoring device having a clasp region and a closure means for rapid release, a body for grasping, and an attachment means for receiving a tethering means such as a lead, leash, rope or the like, is provided. The clasp region has a gateway opening at its outer most tip. The closure means is preferably a spring biased rotary arm actuated by a thumb nub which allows rapid release in the direction to of pull of a harness, belt, or rope when a portion of the aforesaid is encircled by the clasp and the thumb nub is actuated. While the inventive anchoring device may be used in a variety of ways such as for rock climbing or industrial safety harnesses, the anchoring device is especially useful for animal husbandry where restraining devices, such as for example, leads or leashes used to guide animals, are terminated by clasps.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1997Date of Patent: January 19, 1999Assignee: Buntin Foundry, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Buntin, Jr.

Patent number: 5858534Abstract: A solid phase magnetic support having a hydrophilic surface, a method of making the support, and a method of using the support for peptide synthesis are provided. The solid phase magnetic support is synthesized from a starting material which is a magnetic polystyrene polymer bead which has a plurality of polystyrene coated metal oxide particles randomly distributed in a polystyrene matrix having chloromethyl groups. Hydrophilic long chain hydrocarbon spacer arms, such as polyalkylene diamine molecules are coupled with sonication to the chloromethyl groups. Each spacer arm is provided with a terminal amine for linking to a first amino acid. Preferably, the terminal amine on the spacer arm is provided by a low molecular weight linker molecule which can be acid cleaved from the spacer arm. However, the spacer arm may be derivatized and linked to a first amino acid which cannot be acid cleaved from the spacer arm.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1996Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Solid Phase Sciences Corp.Inventor: Irving Sucholeiki

Patent number: 5834121Abstract: This invention provides a novel composite magnetic bead and a method for making the composite magnetic bead. The composite magnetic bead is comprised of a matrix formed from vinyl monomers throughout which is distributed primary beads, each primary bead of which is a magnetizable metal oxide encapsulated in a rigid polymeric coating. The matrix structure allows the composite magnetic bead to swell in organic solvents without loss of the intermeshed primary beads. Further, the matrix can be functionalized to allow the covalent bonding of sites useful for organic syntheses. The composite magnetic beads are made utilizing a core-shell polymerization techinque under conditions which preserve the oxidation state of the magnetizable metal oxide in the primary particles. In one embodiment, primary beads, each having a hydrophobic exterior surface, are dispersed in an inert solvent with a vinyl monomer and a crosslinking agent for that monomer to form a dispersed phase.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1996Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignees: Solid Phase Sciences Corp., Polymer Laboratories Ltd.Inventors: Irving Sucholeiki, Graham Margetts, Mark Roberts

Patent number: 5800300Abstract: A device for exploring the transferring of motion from one body to another body which utilizes a motion transfer surface is presented. The device is a hollow structure for receiving an object which has a motion transfer surface on its exterior. The hollow structure may be a tube or a polygon, such as for example a pyramid. The hollow structure can be opened and closed so that the object can be secured therein. Preferably, the object is spherical. Further, the object may have a gyroscope seated within its interior. The gyroscope may be activated by waves having a frequency, such as for example sound waves or electronic waves. Further objects, each having a motion transfer surface may also be seated within the hollow structure. Preferably where two or more objects are present, each object has a motion transfer surface and is in frictional contact with another object. Additionally, a toothed ribbon suitable for use as a motion transfer surface is described.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1997Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Inventor: Ellen Childress

Patent number: 5684130Abstract: This invention provides a process for the synthesis of a defined chemical entity, i.e., any desired chemical compound, in high yield using a solid support comprising a magnetic particle, in organic solvents. In general, a sequence of chemical synthetic steps are required to prepare the defined chemical entity bound to the particle. The particle comprises a resin bearing a high concentration of substituent pendant functional groups, to which the first reagent employed in the synthetic sequence binds; in subsequent reaction steps further reagents react with the growing chemical intermediate bound to the pendant functional groups until the defined chemical entity is obtained. The particle also comprises smaller paramagnetic or superpara-magnetic particles incorporated within the resin. The magnetic particle therefore responds to imposed magnetic field gradients, permitting ease of manipulation in steps involving removal of organic solvent.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1995Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: Solid Phase Sciences CorporationInventor: Irving Sucholeiki
