  • Patent number: 7437980
Abstract: A high bandwidth rotary fast tool servo provides tool motion in a direction nominally parallel to the surface-normal of a workpiece at the point of contact between the cutting tool and workpiece. Three or more flexure blades having all ends fixed are used to form an axis of rotation for a swing arm that carries a cutting tool at a set radius from the axis of rotation. An actuator rotates a swing arm assembly such that a cutting tool is moved in and away from the lathe-mounted, rotating workpiece in a rapid and controlled manner in order to machine the workpiece. A pair of position sensors provides rotation and position information for a swing arm to a control system. A control system commands and coordinates motion of the fast tool servo with the motion of a spindle, rotating table, cross-feed slide, and in-feed slide of a precision lathe.

  • Patent number: 7382893
Abstract: The movable structure of a loudspeaker is configured to include a bridging element that connects the base of a diaphragm to an electromagnetic actuator. The bridging element extends radially with respect to the translation axis of the actuator and secures the diaphragm at a radial distance from the actuator, thereby increasing the base part of the diaphragm. This increased base area allows the translatable part of the actuator to be shortened, thereby providing high-performance in structures of limited depth.

  • Patent number: 7298861
Abstract: A loudspeaker includes a housing with front and rear sides, a diagram flexibly connected to the housing, and an actuator or displacing the diaphragm with respect to the housing along a translation axis. The housing extends around the translation axis and includes a conical forepart widening towards the forepart, a base part positioned at the rear side, and an intermediate housing part. The intermediate part extends between the forepart and the base part and includes transition areas connected to these parts. The transitions behave as hinges under the influence of an axial load above a certain value, whereby the intermediate housing portion turns towards the translation axis and the forepart turns towards the rear side under the influence of such a load.

  • Patent number: 7281382
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring the exhaust path of a gas turbine engine for the presence of unwanted flames downstream from the main combustion chamber(s). The system is comprised of an Electro-Optics Module containing sensors and associated processing electronics as well as collection and transmitting optics, which relay the radiant energy generated by a flame event to the sensors. The information generated by the sensors is directly related to the time based intensity of the flame event, which can suggest problems associated with the condition of combustion related engine components. This information can then be used by the engine owner/operator to assess the condition of the engine and determine the more efficient required maintenance schedule.

  • Patent number: 7277937
Abstract: A system is provided for executing a system call originating in a local computer on a first remote computer connected to the local computer via a network. Communication is established between the local computer and the first remote computer via the network. A syscall server is installed in the first remote computer. A reference address is sent from the first remote computer to the local computer via the network through execution of code by the syscall server. A syscall request is built in the local computer with arguments determined using the reference address received from the first remote computer. The syscall request is sent from the local computer to the first remote computer via the network. The syscall request is copied into a stack of the first remote computer through execution of code by the syscall server. Registers are popped from the syscall request in the stack. Execution of a syscall request is initiated on the first remote computer. The result of the syscall request is pushed onto the stack.

  • Patent number: 7272237
Abstract: An audio speaker having a removable voice coil, which may be a part of a voice coil assembly. The voice coil may be user-removable to facilitate replacement of a damaged voice coil or reconfiguration of a speaker system. Properly positioning the voice coil assembly may provide a solder-free electrical connection between the voice coil and leads that provide current to the voice coil. In some embodiments, the voice coil is user-removably attached to an inner circumferential surface of a diaphragm. In other embodiments, the voice coil is connected to the diaphragm, and the voice coil assembly and the diaphragm are both user-removably attached to a frame.

  • Patent number: 7260355
Abstract: An interactive learning system and method are provided that identify a “gap” between the skill(s) possessed by the individual and those required by an organization and then creates a training regimen to fill that gap. The system and method precisely map the training to the defined required skills by identifying a skill desired to be possessed of a user and accessing a first electronic database that comprises a set of skills currently possessed by the user. Next the desired skill is compared with the possessed set of skills. If the possessed set of skills does not comprise the desired skill, the desired skill is mapped with a training regimen resident in a second electronic database. Then the user is automatically presented with the training regimen. A desired skill level may also be also specified and compared with the skill level currently possessed by the user. If the desired skill level has not yet been achieved, again a mapping is performed and a linked training regimen presented to the user.

  • Patent number: 7251413
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing enhanced navigation of stored digital video content based upon an event index. Includes generation and storage of an event index, as well as navigation based on events in the event index. An example system is embodied in a digital video recorder that detects and stores black field and silent frame events for use in locating commercial groups. The commercial groups may be skipped or otherwise navigated based upon data pointers linking the stored events to corresponding locations in the video data file. Generation of the event index may involve comparing a luminance value for each frame to a luminance threshold value for a video presentation. The luminance threshold value may be based upon a transition point between a first group of luminance values corresponding to video content and a second group of luminance values corresponding to transition events, such as black fields.

  • Patent number: 7242787
Abstract: An electromagnetic driving unit includes a magnet part and a coil part that is translatable along a translation axis with respect to the magnet part. A diaphragm extends from the coil part in a substantially radial direction with respect to the translation axis of the coil part. The magnet part includes two permanent magnets and an intermediate magnetic pole element that is sandwiched between the permanent magnets when viewed along the translation axis of the coil part. In order to improve the efficiency of the driving unit, the permanent magnets and the intermediate magnetic pole element are sandwiched between two external magnetic pole elements, and all pole elements have pole faces that are magnetically directed towards the coil part.
