  • Patent number: 8336366
Abstract: A trans-configurable modular chromatograph assembly is provided with a core unit, at least one column module, and at least one detector module. The core unit includes a controller module having a first computer processing unit, an analogue to digital signal converter, and a thermally insulated enclosure. The enclosure includes a first heater member positioned to heat the thermally insulated first enclosure housing, a first analytes stream inlet, and a first analyte stream conduit. A temperature controller is programmed to maintain the thermally insulated first enclosure at a uniform temperature throughout an analysis. The at least one column module includes a computer processor, means for releasably securing the core unit to a column module, a capillary column, a capillary column heater member, and means for sensing and controlling the temperature of the capillary column. The capillary column has an analyte outlet member in fluid communication with at least one detector module.

  • Patent number: 8309930
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhanced THz radiation coupling to molecules, includes the steps of depositing a test material near the discontinuity edges of a slotted member, and enhancing the THz radiation by transmitting THz radiation through the slots. The molecules of the test material are illuminated by the enhanced THz radiation that has been transmitted through the slots, thereby producing an increased coupling of EM radiation in the THz spectral range to said material. The molecules can be bio-molecules, explosive materials, or species of organisms. The slotted member can be a semiconductor film, a metallic film, in particular InSb, or layers thereof. THz detectors sense near field THz radiation that has been transmitted through said slots and the test material.

  • Patent number: 8289132
Abstract: The operating control system can be use on electronic equipment, such as cell phones, computers, engine analyzers, etc. An input device, programming a single or multiple devices, enables the input of user access data by a primary user for multiple modes. Access for secondary users can be controlled and monitored by the primary user. The system requires password entry upon the total loss of power, shutting down the system if the password is not obtained. In another embodiment the system differentiates between power outages, removal of power, loss due to water and normal loss of power due to use. A further embodiment tracks usage of the device by units, enabling primary user refill of the units.

  • Patent number: 8146462
Abstract: A variable compression tool comprising a retaining surface attached to a lever arm and a cam surface attached to a second lever arm. The two arms are moveably connected through a fixed pivot point. The profile of the jaw pocket may be of various shapes. In one instantiation, the jaw pocket conforms to at least two sides of a nut. The orientation of the cam surface to the jaw pocket is such that the force generated by closing the jaws forces the nut into the retaining surface. Adjustment of the cam lever arm is regulated by an eccentric cam adjuster bearing which changes the effective center of rotation of lever arm two in two dimensions simultaneously by rotation of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 8127928
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a collapsible shipping container utilizing standard box making equipment manufactured from material such as paper, corrugated board, and corrugated plastic, and in particular, to a package that employs a tensioned film system, that holds a product hammock style, between two layers of film and/or between a film and a wall of the package. To use the box, the formed box which has been stored in a flat configuration, is unfolded to a substantially rectangular or square configuration by folding at least one flap panel about its fold line to a position superadjacent a central panel and conforming the container to a hexagonal cross-section. In this configuration the box retains its hexagonal cross-section and can be self supporting in a vertical position, in order to facilitate the filing operation.

  • Patent number: 7963928
Abstract: An automated device for obtaining a tissue biopsy and delivering material to provide hemostatis, therapeutic agents or marker material is described. The device has an outer casing, a power source, a drive mechanism, an application chamber through which the biopsy mechanism, typically a cutting needle, passes through and an application channel. The cutting biopsy mechanism has a mechanical or electromechanical mechanism to rapidly fire a stylet with a biopsy trough into the intended tissue and then rapidly propel a biopsy cannula over the stylet to sever and retain tissue that has protruded into the biopsy trough. At least one application channel is formed by a tube centrically slipped over the biopsy cannula wall. To enable the collection of tissue specimens, the distal segment of the application channel forms a close fitting and concentric sheath around the biopsy cannula.

  • Patent number: 7963253
Abstract: A grooming device for an animal has a rotating member with at least one pair of opposing connection members configured to interact with the receiving areas of a flex member. The receiving areas are configured to permit the connection members to move to enable the flex member to move from a parallel plane with the rotating member to a non-parallel plane. The flex member is maintained spaced from the rotating member through the use of springs placed between the two members forming a compression area. The curry ribs are at substantially right angles to, and affixed to, at least a portion of the exterior periphery of the flex member. The curry ribs can be removable from the flex member or permanently secured to the surface.

  • Patent number: 7883001
Abstract: The disclosure indicates that the compression strength of a corrugated shipping crate can be increased through the use of horizontal panels adhered to the inside surface of the vertically fluted outer walls of the crate. The panels can comprise a layer of horizontally fluted single layer of double wall or triple wall corrugated, and a layer of vertically oriented double or triple wall corrugated. The crates' outer walls can be vertically fluted 1100 weight corrugated or less. The double wall vertically fluted corrugated, can be corrugated board have a weight in the range from 500 to 1100 pounds.
