  • Patent number: 7465382
Abstract: A precision flow controller is capable of providing a flow rate less than 100 microliters/minute and varying the flow rate in a prescribed manner that is both predictable and reproducible where the accuracy and precision of the flowrate is less than 5% of the flow rate. A plurality of variable pressure fluid supplies pump fluid through a single outlet. Flowmeters measure the flow rates and a controller compares the flow rates to desired flowrates and, if necessary, adjusts the plurality of variable pressure fluid supplies so that the variable pressure fluid supplies pump fluid at the desired flow rate. The variable pressure fluid supplies can be pneumatically driven.

  • Patent number: 7436397
Abstract: A touchpad stylus includes a housing, a stylus member axially moveable in the housing, and an energy-absorbing cushion member interposed between a rear extremity of the stylus member and an internal cavity of the housing, the cushion member lightly forwardly biasing the stylus member relative to the housing. The stylus member has a smoothly spherical tip extremity, and the device avoids impact damage to fragile outer membranes of existing touchpad devices because the full mass of the housing is isolated from impact with the touchpad, the stylus member itself having very significantly less mass than an aggregate mass of the complete assembly.

  • Patent number: 7429317
Abstract: A non-Newtonian fluid is used in an electrokinetic device to produce electroosmotic flow therethrough. The nonlinear viscosity of the non-Newtonian fluid allows the electrokinetic device to behave differently under different operating conditions, such as externally applied pressures and electric potentials. Electrokinetic devices can be used with a non-Newtonian fluid in a number of applications, including but not limited to electrokinetic pumps, flow controllers, diaphragm valves, and displacement systems.

  • Patent number: 7426784
Abstract: The invention satisfies this need. The invention is an internally threaded insert for use with a polymetric pipe fitting in a fire sprinkler system. The insert comprises an outer side surface, an outer rearward surface and an outer forward surface. The outer forward surface is adapted to retain a fire sprinkler at a forward end of the insert. The outer side surface of the insert is sized and dimensioned so as to closely match the bores of standard polymeric pipe fittings, so as to be capable of being slidably and snugly received into the bores of a standard polymeric pipe fitting. The insert can be conveniently affixed within the bores by non-mechanical means, such as by gluing.

  • Patent number: 7377014
Abstract: A device for hanging one or more cords, such as cables or ropes used to hang banners or electrical wires used to hang strings of decorative lights, includes (a) an elongate housing, (b) an interior member which is slidably disposed within the housing, and (c) biasing means, such as a coil spring. The interior member defines a notch proximate to its forward end. The notch is sized to accept and retain at least one cord. The interior member is slidable within the housing between a closed position and an open position. The biasing means is adapted to bias the interior member towards the closed position. When a cord is disposed within the notch, the biasing of the interior member towards the closed position firmly attaches the cord to the device.

  • Patent number: 7380140
Abstract: The invention establishes a protected volume on a data storage device associated with a computational device by allowing an operating system of the computational device to boot up to a point (the volume conversion crossover point) at which predetermined functionality of the operating system becomes available, then establishing the protected volume. A copy of the operating system data (cleartext operating system data) that is accessed during boot up prior to the volume conversion crossover point (which can be known by monitoring and recording access to operating system data during boot-up) is stored in an unprotected region of the data storage device. A copy of the cleartext operating system data is also stored in the protected volume. After the protected volume is established, the computational device is reset, causing the operating system to boot up again.
