  • Patent number: 7103471
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing dead reckoning position data, orientation, and heading of a person is disclosed. The apparatus uses an algorithm that automatically determines the appropriate set of navigation functions for personal navigation based upon the orientation of the apparatus. Dead reckoning is accomplished by combining electronic heading and motion signals from human ambulation. Individual orientation and human motion measurement is accomplished with motion sensing devices. In one implementation of the invention, a navigation device provides different heading, position, and/or orientation functionality depending on whether the navigation device is affixed to the user in a vertical position or horizontal position, or the navigation device is not affixed to the user.

  • Patent number: 7074227
Abstract: An instrument for double-folding an elastically deformable IOL and for inserting the IOL into the anterior chamber of a patient's eye has a first elongate member and a second elongate member which are independently slidable within a handle. The distal ends of the first elongate member and the second elongate member protrude outwardly from the handle to provide a pair of forceps jaws suitable for gripping an IOL. The forceps jaws can be thrust through a double-folding member wherein the IOL is double-folded. After being double-folded, the IOL can be inserted into a patient's eye where it can be released by the forceps and allowed to unfold.

  • Patent number: 7060170
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, stable electroosmotic flow systems and methods for designing the same are disclosed. The invention provides electroosmotic flow systems comprising electroosmotic flow elements, including bridge elements, that have matching flux ratios, i.e., when two or more elements of an electroosmotic flow system are in fluidic and electrical communication at a junction, the flux ratio for each of the elements is selected so that the difference in flux ratios of any two elements is less than a target value. The invention also provides methods for designing such systems. Also disclosed is a novel design for the terminal portions of electroosmotic flow (EOF) and bridge elements and for junctions in electroosmotic flow systems, whereby the elements are designed so that the terminal current flux is much smaller than the element current flux.
