Abstract: An aqueous composition of matter containing sodium alkene sulfonates or sodium hydroxy alkane sulfonates and aliphatic monoethanol amides in an amount sufficient to increase the viscosity thereof.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing alkyl sulfonates by the addition of bisulfite ions to olefinic double bonds. In the process, ammonium, or alkali metal bisulfite and olefins having from about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms per molecule are reacted in the presence of lower alkanol having from 2 to about 4 carbon atoms, water and a reaction initiating agent.

Abstract: It is disclosed that amides are readily prepared by reacting an ester of a volatile alcohol with a volatile amine reactant in an anhydrous system and at moderate pressure. Excess amine reactant is fed to the reaction system and allowed to escape therefrom in the course of the reaction to remove alcohol liberated during the reaction.
