  • Patent number: 6221815
Abstract: The present invention relates to diesel fuel and lubrication oil defoaming agents, and crude oil demulsifiers, as well as methods for using same. In particular, the defoaming agents and demulsifiers are comprised of copolymers which have structures constituting a backbone of polysiloxane onto which is grafted an organic group. These structures comprise a polymer of the formula MDxD′yD″zM, where M is O0.5Si(CH3)3, D is a OSi(CH3)2, D′ is OSi(CH3)R, D′ is OSi(CH3)R′, R is a polyhydric C6-C28 organic group, R′ is a phenol derivative or a long chain aliphatic group or polyethers, z is between 0 and 80, x+y+z is between 10-200, x/z is ≧1, and x/(y+z) is between about 1 and about 5, or formula M′DaM′ where M′ is O0.5Si(CH3)2R, a is between 4-10, and R and D are the same as defined above.

  • Patent number: 6207720
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process of preparing emulsions of hydrolyzable silanes, such as alkoxysilanes, using an oil concentrate. The emulsifiers are initially stirred with water. An oil concentrate is then prepared by adding a hydrolyzable silane to the stirring mixture of emulsifiers and water. Additional water is then dispersed in the oil concentrate to form the desired emulsion. Emulsions prepared by this process have shelf stability that is 6 months or longer.

  • Patent number: 6197075
Abstract: An overbased magnesium composition deposit control additive for residual fuel oils and turbine fuels is an overbased magnesium sulfonate, carboxylate or phenate or mixtures thereof containing at least 14% and upwards to about 18% by weight of magnesium and containing a succinic anhydride and lower carboxylic acid co-promoter reaction product. The additive when added to fuel oils, such as residual fuel oils containing high asphaltenes, reduces, if not eliminates, magnesium/asphaltene deposits or sediment and the consequential plugging of filters. The additive also reduces, if not eliminates, vanadium caused corrosion in the turbine. The invention is also the process for preparing the overbased composition or deposit control additive, wherein the overbasing reaction incorporates the combination of a lower carboxylic acid, preferably acetic acid and a succinic anhydride, preferably dodecenyl succinic anhydride (DDSA), as the co-promoter.

  • Patent number: 6197876
Abstract: The present invention teaches heterocyclic amine modified siloxanes and their use, a preferred of which is as adjuvants for pesticides. The heterocyclic amine modified siloxanes have siloxane backbones with pendant, terminal or intermediate heterocyclic amine groups, which may contain one or more heteroatoms, i.e., nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen. The heterocyclic amine groups or the siloxane may be functionalized further with alkyl or alkyleneoxide groups.

  • Patent number: 6197912
Abstract: Moisture curable polymers having terminal or pendant silyl groups of the formula: where R1 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, optionally interupted with one or more ether oxygen atoms, or a group of the formula R2 represents a C1 to C6 alkoxy group or a C6-C8 aryloxy group; R3 represents an alkyl or an aryl group; T represents a branched or cyclic alkylene radical of 4 to 10 carbons, which may be optionally interrupted by one or more ether oxygen atoms; X is an alkylene group of 3-10 carbon atoms, which may be linear, branched or cyclic; and a is 0, 1 or 2, may be prepared by reacting (A) a compound having at least two isocyanate groups thereon with (B) a silane of formula (3): Moisture cured sealant formulations formulated with the polymers exhibit improved thermal stability, elongation, and tear resistance.
