  • Patent number: 5312062
Abstract: A thread clamping device for a textile machine includes a clamping pad which is pressed against a clamping rib by a compression spring. The spring force can be adjusted, independent of other like devices associated with the machine, by an adjusting mechanism including a slider with an inclined surface supporting one end of the spring, wherein movement of the slider alters the precompression of the spring. The clamp is normally held open by a cam which overrides the spring, but when thread tension falls below an adjustable threshold, a tension monitor automatically activates the clamp.

  • Patent number: 5312278
Abstract: A swimming glove includes a glove body and finger sheaths, and a sleeve made from a woven fabric having webs joining the finger sheaths and a blade bilaterally extending outward from the sleeve thereof and the sheaths for the thumb and the little finger for increasing the force of the stroke of the hand. The blade has a first area adjacent to glove body, whose first part is thinner than a second part adjacent to the sleeve, for maximum finger dexterity and comfort. Hinges are formed on the blade along the sleeve so that the blade is turned toward the rowing direction of the hand to reduce water resistance upon each return stroke of the hand.

  • Patent number: 5310131
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manipulating hot metallic material includes placing a coil of the material at a first position, the coil having an open coil eye, and initiating uncoiling of the coil while it is in the first position. During uncoiling, the coil is transferred to a second position by moving it in a direction transverse to its axis, and heat loss from the coil side edges and eye is restricted by providing a heat shield closely adjacent to the side edges. The uncoiling continues at the second position, and when the coil is near the end of the uncoiling operation at the second position, a coil opener pin is inserted axially into the open coil eye without contacting the coil, thus avoiding conductive heat loss to the pin. Finally, at the completion of the uncoiling operation, the last few coil wraps are pulled into contact with the pin as the coil is pulled downstream out of the second position, whereby the pin prevents collapsing or crushing of the final portion of the coil.

  • Patent number: 5306203
Abstract: A chicken leg processor includes a transfer device for removing the lower portion of halved birds from a shackle conveyor, and delivering them to the conveyor chain of a cutting apparatus. The transfer device includes a segmented transfer disc which lifts the hocks from the shackles and deposits them in pockets on a horizontal gathering wheel. Subsequently, the hocks are driven out of the pockets by a paddle, and are captured between respective pairs of guide rails entering the cutting apparatus. At this point, the saddles are inverted by an overhead chain which rolls them forward into proper orientation for the cutting devices.

  • Patent number: 5305690
Abstract: A franking machine is disclosed comprising a carriage manually movable along a bed and a print drum carried by the carriage to make rolling engagement with a mail item supported on the bed. A toothed rack extends along the length of the bed and gearing on the carriage meshes with the rack to drive the print drum and an impression roller carried by the carriage. The gearing is arranged such that as the carriage is moved in a forward direction along the bed, a mail item gripped between the print drum and the impression roller is fed along the bed in the reverse direction so that the length of traverse of the carriage, and the length of the bed, is less than the length of the franking impression to be printed.

  • Patent number: 5303317
Abstract: For the axial springing of the connector pin (1), the connector pin is held firmly in a receiving socket (3) which is connected via a spring element (4) with the actual connector body (2). The receiving socket, the spring element and at least a part of the connector body are integrally formed. Through suitable choice of material and shape, the spring element (4) obtains the required spring characteristics. By means of this design, the connector has only a few individual components and is easily assembled.

  • Patent number: 5293465
Abstract: A franking machine is disclosed in which a digital printing device such as a thermal printer or ink jet printer is connected to accounting circuits of the franking machine so as to be controlled thereby to print franking impressions. In order to prevent unauthorised control of the printing device by application of external print signals, print data signals output by the accounting circuit are encrypted by logically combining the signals with pseudo random strings of binary bits. At the printing device the encrypted print data signals are decrypted by logically combining the encrypted print data signals with a corresponding pseudo random string of binary bits to provide print signals to control the printing device. Connections between the decryption circuit and the print head are protected from unauthorised access.

  • Patent number: 5293173
Abstract: A device for use with an electrically heated window to enable it to be used as a radio antenna has a bifilar wound choke (2) which allows passage of heater current while isolating radio signals from the heater power circuit. The device is connected to radio apparatus via an amplifier (13). The choke (2) and the input of the amplifier (13) are both of relatively low impedance. The choke (2) may be a pot-cored bifilar winding and the amplifier (13) may use a field effect transistor in its input stage connected in grounded gate configuration.

  • Patent number: 5287969
Abstract: A shipping container includes a hexagonal carton having six walls extending between top and bottom ends of the carton, and a gimbal assembly contained within the carton and supported only by pivot connections to an opposed pair of the walls. The gimbal assembly comprises a normally horizontal ring supported by the pivot connections to the side walls, a normally vertical cradle pivotally connected at diametrically opposed points to the ring, and a product platform connected to the cradle below its pivot axis. Since the cradle and product platform have a combined center of gravity below the pivot axis, the cradle tends to remain in a vertical plane regardless of how the carton is turned. The top and bottom ends are preferably formed by six triangular flaps each slightly oversize, so that the flaps toggle to a locked, non-coplanar position upon closure.

  • Patent number: 5285544
Abstract: The treatment of a material web (2) ensues in a U-shaped shaft comprising two shaft limbs (3, 4) and a connecting area (5) between both the shaft limbs. The shaft is filled with a treatment liquid, the feed of fresh treatment liquid and also the circulation of treatment liquid ensuing beneath the surface of the liquor within the shaft limb. The effect is a particularly intensive charging of the material web, with extremely economic use of treatment liquid. Foaming of the treatment liquid is prevented, also in the case of heavy turbulence.

  • Patent number: 5283938
Abstract: A fracturing tool for connecting rods has a first and second body prepared from material with a grain direction, each body having a semi-cylindrical protuberance with an axis substantially parallel with the grain of the material. The two protuberances together define a substantially cylindrical mandrel which can be placed within the large bore of a connecting rod which is to be cracked. The bodies are mounted so that one of them is slidable toward and away from the other in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the mandrel. The method of making the tool includes mounting the bodies on a rotary table having an axis of rotation coaxial with that of the mandrel. The rotary table rotates while a grinding wheel finish grinds the mandrel surface.
