  • Patent number: 5797627
Abstract: A tubing end-piece interconnects a free end of a piece of tubing and a tubing connector or fitting so that a fluid can flow between the tubing and the fitting or connector. The tubing end-piece includes a body member extending along a longitudinal axis with a bore extending longitudinally therethrough. The body member has an elongated body portion, a doughnut-shaped head portion and a frustoconically-shaped tail portion. The body portion has an outer body surface configured in a shape of a frustum that tapers from a first end and towards a second end. The doughnut-shaped head portion is connected to the first end of said body portion and extends radially outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis to form in cross-section an outer curved surface commencing from the first end and terminating in an outer peripheral edge which defines a first opening into the bore.

  • Patent number: 5792353
Abstract: In order to avoid dead spaces which are difficult to subject to backflushing and in which particles can be deposited, a special helical filter candle, a method of manufacture of said helical filter candle as well as an end portion (11) for a helical filter candle (1) is created. The helical filter candle (1) comprises a wire (2) wound in windings (3) onto a support structure (4) of support rods (5). At one end, an end portion (11) is welded to said support rods (5). The last of the windings (3) is ground flat in such a way that a spacing of uniform width arises between the surface of the end portion (11) and the final winding (3). During manufacture of the helical filter candle (1), the wire is wound onto the support rods (5) in windings (3), wherein the spacing (7) between the individual windings in a middle area (6) of the support rods (5) is less than in an end area (8) of approximately 3 to 5 windings.

  • Patent number: 5792816
Abstract: Subjects of the invention are new crosslinking agents for polymers with acid anhydride groups on the basis of amines or polyamines that are adsorbed on anhydrous molecular sieve powder. In blends with the polymers containing acid anhydride groups and under water-free conditions, the new crosslinkers form crosslinkable polymer systems that are storage-stable at room temperature. The crosslinking reaction is triggered by water or elevated temperature, leading to desorption of the amines by the molecular sieve powder and reaction with the anhydride groups. The crosslinking products are very soft to hard compositions with different tensile strength, tear resistance, permanent set, glass transition temperature, heat resistance, adhesion, tackiness and chemical resistance. The polymer systems can be used in the manufacture of molding compositions, coating compositions, foams, adhesive compositions, hot melt compositions and sealant compositions.

  • Patent number: 5792665
Abstract: An oxygen analyzer is provided to detect the oxygen concentration of both a control gas and the output of an oxygen concentrator using ultrasound technology. The analyzer uses a calibration mode to alter the analyzer's output when calibrating it on the control gas. The analyzer is then switched back to its normal mode to permit a therapist to check the percentage of oxygen in the gas being supplied by an oxygen concentrator.

  • Patent number: 5774554
Abstract: Methods of verifying use of postage charges in respect of mail items are disclosed. An authentication code is derived from a secret identification of a sender and a part of the destination address of the item. The code is printed on the mail item together with a sender account reference. On receipt of the mail item, the postal authority is able to use the account reference to access the secret identification and thereby determine if the destination address derived corresponds to that printed on the mail to verify the payment for the postage charge. In a modification, each time a postage meter effects a transaction with a remote center, the remote center generates and transmits to the meter a transaction number. The meter utilises a unique key to generate an encrypted code based on an item count and the transaction number. The code and a meter identification are printed on the mail.

  • Patent number: 5766467
Abstract: A filter arrangement for backflushable filtration as well as a filter candle are formed in such a way that dead spaces and screw connections that are difficult to subject to backflushing are avoided, especially in the non-filtrate space (6). The filter candles (7) are held by a head portion (13). The head portion (13) is pressed against a holder arrangement (3) by means of tensioning means (9) arranged in the filtrate space (6). A support element (10) connects the head portion (13) with the tensioning means (9), said tensioning means (9) being able to bear against a contact surface (11) of the support element (10). The filtered liquid is led from the inside of the filter candle (7) through a flow-through channel (22) between the outside surface (20) of the support element (10) and the inside surface (21) of the opening (4) in the holder arrangement (3) into the filtrate space (5).

  • Patent number: 5762254
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for receiving a web with intermittent motion and converting it to uniform motion, particularly for severed carton items. A reciprocating carriage has first and second adjacent idler rollers and a third idler roller spaced away from the first two. A driven roller has a fixed axis and is located with respect to the third idler roller such that the web when strung between the first and second rollers and thence around the third roller and thence around the driven roller, assumes a quasi-boustrophedonic configuration such that the portion of the web between the third idler roller and the driven roller decreases when the carriage moves in the direction which decreases the distance between them. Upper an lower endless belts pass partially around the first and second rollers, thence around the third idler roller, thence around the driven roller, thence along different respective return paths.

  • Patent number: 5762087
Abstract: A valve construction for high pressure gases, allowing rapid opening and closing, includes a main body with inlet and outlet passages, and a guide sleeve having a primary and a secondary piston slidably mounted within the sleeve, the primary piston being adjacent a closure at one end of the sleeve, and the secondary piston being at the end of the primary piston which is remote from the closure. The secondary piston supports a seal for closing the gas outlet passage when the secondary piston is remote from the closure. The secondary piston has an axial passage with an elongate member movable therein, the elongate member being fixed to the primary piston. A valve means is provided between the axial passage and the elongate member, the valve means being open when the bleed orifice is closed. A peripheral seal between the secondary piston and the sleeve acts to restrain the axial movement of gas.

  • Patent number: 5753115
Abstract: A tank interceptor for rainwater and waste-water has an approximately opposed inlet and outlet. An inlet compartment is disposed adjacent the inlet, while an outlet compartment is provided in communication with the outlet. Both compartments are upwardly open, thus constituting a first aperture adjacent the top of the compartment. A second aperture is provided in each compartment, adjacent the bottom, through which solid and other heavy components can pass into the internal chamber of the container. The first compartment has an auxiliary outlet below the first aperture but above the second aperture, the auxiliary outlet communicating with the top of an auxiliary conduit that has an open bottom end in communication with the internal chamber of the container at a location adjacently below the level of liquid in the internal chamber at low entry flow rates. The auxiliary outlet being adapted to allow oil-based materials to be drawn off.

  • Patent number: 5746912
Abstract: A wastewater treatment installation includes at least two tank units having portions located in juxtaposed relation, the units being secured in such position. An inlet to the first tank unit communicates with a drop pipe connecting the inlet to a liquid delivery structure intermediate the top and bottom of the first tank unit, and located diametrically opposite the respective portion. The liquid delivery structure ejects liquid tangentially in opposite directions along the side wall of the first tank unit. An outlet from the second tank unit (or the last of a series of units) is located opposite the respective portion, and an outlet riser pipe connects the outlet to an intake opening, which is located intermediate the top and bottom of the second tank unit.
