  • Patent number: 8219196
Abstract: Techniques for determining whether a medical device will be able to deliver stimulation according to a particular program throughout a useable voltage range of a power source of the medical device are described. According to some examples, the medical device configures a DC to DC converter of the medical device in a specified output configuration and delivers electrical stimulation from the medical device according to a program while at the specified output configuration. Whether the medical device will be able to deliver stimulation according to the program when the power source is at a power source voltage level lower than a present voltage level used during therapy delivery is determined based on a value of a voltage drop across a regulator module determined while delivering the electrical stimulation according to the program. The determination for a program may be performed, as an example, when the program is created or modified.

  • Patent number: 8219267
Abstract: The speed of the wind during operation of a UAV is estimated. In one example the speed of the wind is estimated by modeling an acceleration of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on a measured ground speed of the UAV, determining an actual acceleration of the UAV with one or more sensors, and estimating the speed of the wind as an integral of a difference between the modeled acceleration and the actual acceleration.

  • Patent number: 8212375
Abstract: The invention is directed to an optical network terminal (ONT) for use in a passive optical network (PON) that provides reliable battery status reporting and, optionally, remote monitoring and configuration of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit. In particular, the UPS unit provides power to the ONT via a power line and transmits data to the ONT via the power line. Generally, the described invention supports one-way or two-way communication of status, alarm, and configuration signals using a single power line. Specifically, such signals may be transmitted over the power line by inserting a carrier frequency, such as a carrier frequency of approximately 1 MHz, onto the power line. In this manner, the invention may provide a simple battery status monitoring system while also reducing the cost of installation.

  • Patent number: 8213207
Abstract: A system may include a first connector housing, a magnetic data storage device mechanically coupled to the first connector housing, a second connector housing configured to be mechanically engaged with the first connector housing, and a permanent magnet mechanically coupled to the second cavity. In some examples, relative motion between the magnetic data storage device and the permanent magnetic causes data stored on the magnetic data storage device to be modified. In one example, the system further includes a printed board assembly mechanically coupled to one of the first or second connector housings and a master interconnect board mechanically coupled to the other one of the first or connector housings. Modification to the data stored on the magnetic data storage device may indicate relative movement between the first and second connector housings.

  • Patent number: 8208406
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for dynamically managing weighted queues. In accordance with the techniques, a network security device comprises a queue management module that assigns, for each queue of a plurality of queues, a quota desirable to a user that a processor of the network security device consumes to service each queue. The queue management module determines, based on the desirable quotas, a queue weight for each queue and computes. Based on the computation, the queue management module dynamically adjusts one or more of the weights such that subsequent amounts of processing time actually required to process the number of packets defined by each of the queue weights more accurately reflects the desirable quotas assigned to each of the queues. The network device outputs the number of packets in accordance with the adjusted weights.

  • Patent number: 8209510
Abstract: In general, the invention is directed to techniques for identifying memory overruns. For example, as described herein, a device includes a main memory that enables an addressable memory space for the device. A plurality of memory pages each comprises a separate, contiguous block of addressable memory locations within the addressable memory space. The device also includes a memory manager comprising a secure pool allocator that assigns a secure pool size value to a first one of the plurality of memory pages. The secure pool size value defines a plurality of protected memory spaces in the first memory page that partition the first memory page into a plurality of secure objects. The device also includes a memory management unit comprising secure pool logic that determines, based on the secure pool size value, whether a memory address is an address of one of the protected memory spaces in the first memory page.
