Abstract: Non-petroleum organic liquids (fats, animal and vegetable oils, etc.) containing solids (e.g., hydrogenation catalysts) are purified within a unique electrofiltration system wherein the organic liquids are passed through a selected bed material in which is established an intense electric field for removing the solids. Upon solids-fillup of the bed, selective cleaning restores the bed for continued purification of the organic liquid stream. The purified organic liquid stream is monitored for indicating when the selective cleaning of the bed is required. The electrofiltration system, both in a novel electrofilter and process, produces without aging a new organic liquid product having comparable properties to multistep processed prior art organic liquid.
Abstract: Thixotropic high internal phase ratio emulsions containing biologically active agents including biocides, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, defoliants, desiccants, seed disinfectants, growth regulators, etc., which are useful, for example, in agricultural applications. These emulsions include oily in non-oily and non-oily in oily emulsions having an internal phase of at least 60% but preferably 80-95%.
Abstract: Test, auxiliary and reference electrodes are immersed in a corrodant fluid. The test electrode is cathodically polarized by a cathodic polarization circuit. Peak current flow in the auxiliary electrode is measured and a linear cathodic polarization function is generated by a computer circuit. The test electrode is forwardly and reversely anodically polarized by an anodic polarization circuit. A comparator circuit senses the voltage of the test electrode with respect to the auxiliary electrode during reverse anodic polarization and compares this value to the cathodic polarization function. When the test electrode voltage and cathodic polarization function are equal, an anodic memory circuit stores the value of the current passing through the test electrode. This current is the pitting current which is converted into pitting rate.

Abstract: This invention relates to .alpha.-olefin-acrylonitrile copolymers and uses thereof, particularly as antistatic agents in organic liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels.
Abstract: This invention relates to N,N-diallyl-3-hydroxy azetidinium salts, homo- and co-polymers thereof; and the preparation thereof. This invention also relates to the use of the above polymers as demulsifiers.
Abstract: A fouling test apparatus comprising a cylindrical pressure vessel, means for controlling the temperature of fluid contained in the vessel, cylindrical probe having a metallic surface concentric with the vessel walls and provided with a heater for such surface; stirrer in the form of a rotor open at at least one end and positioned between and concentric with the vessel walls and the probe, and sensor for measuring the temperature of the fluid contained in the vessel and the temperature of the probe surface. The probe simulates a heat exchanger surface exposed to a fouling liquid medium. Deposits accumulate on the heated surface in a similar fashion to an actual system and the parameters which affect fouling are all represented. The probe operates with a constant heat flux. As deposits accumulate, the surface temperature of the probe increases and is used as a measure of the deposit formation. The probe is maintained in a stationary position and the stirrer is not dependent on an electrical feed-through.
Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising an O/W demulsifier and a titanium compound, and to the use thereof as an O/W demulsifier. The O/W demulsifier contains amino groups, preferably in quaternary form. The titanium compound is believed to combine with the quaternary amino group to form a quaternary amino-titanium complex.
Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising an O/W demulsifier and a zirconium compound, and to the use thereof as an O/W demulsifier. The O/W demulsifier contains amino groups, preferably in quaternary form. The zirconium compound is believed to combine with the quaternary amino group to form a quaternary amino-zirconium complex.
Abstract: This invention relates to ureylene prepared by reacting an oxyalkylated polyamine with urea and to uses of such ureylene for example in removing oils, solids, and combinations thereof from aqueous systems, etc.
Abstract: This invention relates to (1) water soluble and/or dispersible compositions characterized by the presence of oil modified imidized polyesters; and to (1) which also contains curable resins. This invention also relates to a wide variety of uses for such compositions, such as electrical insulations, for example as in insulation varnishes, and related uses.
Abstract: A desalter/dehydrater having a plurality of electrified coalescing stages in a single vessel wherein the stages are isolated hydraulically to allow parallel or serial stage operation and the emulsion being treated is introduced at one side of the vessel and caused to flow to the opposite side between horizontal planar permeable electrodes. In one embodiment, several electrical stages are operated in parallel to increase vessel throughput capacity. In another embodiment, series operation is employed, wherein each successive stage receives the product from the preceding stage as feed, with fresh water being added. The number of stages is one less than the number of the electrodes.

The compositions are ideally expressed by the polymer unit ##STR1## where Z is S, SO, or SO.sub.2,R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group,R' is a hydrocarbon group, andX is halogen.
Abstract: A radial flow electrofilter having a plurality of parallel planar horizontal electrodes. The filter may be provided with backflush means, in which case the filter medium preferably consists of non-deformable particles, or else a removable filter pack, preferably employing polyurethane foam, may be employed. In operation, finely divided solids, contained in a liquid of low electrical conductivity, may be efficiently removed by passing the liquid radially through the filter, while subjected to a unidirectional current electric field, from the periphery of the filter toward its center.
