Abstract: A sizing agent for paper consisting essentially of a latex consisting essentially of at least one diurethane dispersed in an aqueous medium, said diurethane being of the formula: ##STR1## in which: (a) R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are each alkyl radicals and at least one of them possesses a minimum of 7 carbon atoms;(b) R.sub.7 and x represent, respectively, the cationic and anionic portions of the quaternizing agent R.sub.7 x;(c) R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are selected from C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkylene radicals or polyalkoxylated radicals of a degree of polycondensation of between 1 and 4; and(d) Y is ##STR2## The process of making the sizing agent and using it to size paper are also disclosed.

Abstract: A sealing apparatus for use in a compressor suction or pressure plate valve having a seat member with a plurality of fluid passage ports therethrough. The sealing apparatus comprises a movable plastic plate member having a like plurality of sealing members for juxtaposed sealing engagement with the plurality of fluid passage ports and at least one projection integrally formed on at least one of the sealing members and extending outwardly from the plate member in a direction away from the seat member for receiving a resilient flat spring member urging the plate member against and sealing the fluid passage ports.

Abstract: A polymeric decontamination composition comprising a polymeric reaction product resulting from the reaction of a polyvinylbenzyl halide and a monomeric amine admixed with an alkali metal hydroxide solution capable of swelling said polymeric reaction product and the method of making the composition.

Abstract: In the process of producing hydroxylated polybutadiene from a diene monomer in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and a solvent, wherein the solvent is recovered by distillation for reuse; after separation of the hydroxylated polybutadiene from mixture containing such solvent and reaction impurities, the improvement comprising subjecting said mixture to the action of an alkali metal hydroxide or a hydrazine prior to distillation.

Abstract: A polymeric chemical warfare agent decontamination composition comprising a polymeric quaternary pyridinium salt resulting from the reaction of a polyvinylbenzyl salt and a di(C.sub.l -C.sub.n alkyl) aminopyridine wherein n is 20 or higher, and the method of making such pyridinium salt is disclosed wherein the reaction product is a polymer of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 or higher alkyl group.

The process of making such encapsulated kernel; and microwaveable corn products consisting essentially of the encapsulated corn kernels in a microwaveable package.

Abstract: The invention relates to amine salts of phosphorous acid having a structure of the s-triazine, 1,2,4-triazole, benzimidazole, heptazine, pyrimidine, or piperazine type which may be combined with a polyhydroxylated compound as fireproofing agents for plastics, particularly polyamides and polyolefins, the process of fireproofing said plastics, and the resultant fireproofed plastics.

Abstract: An improved slurry plow which includes provisions for both vertical and horizontal adjustment, characterized in that the plow includes a housing, a telescoping lower member which is spring loaded to retain the lower surface of the plow in slidable contact with an associated moving belt, and further including provisions to permit adjustment of the pressure exerted by the sliding contact and to provide vertical adjustment of the telescoping member.

Abstract: A self-contained liquid composition for use in making fingerprints comprising the reaction product of at least one leuco or non-leuco chromogenic compound and at least one color-developing substance in a liquid vehicle that is a solvent for said chromogenic compound and reaction product and a solvent or dispersant for said color-developing substance. The method of fingerprinting and a fingerprinting system utilizing the liquid composition are also disclosed.

Abstract: An electrosurgical knife includes a stainless steel blade whose surface is abraded or etched, a first coat of primer material applied over the blade, where the surface of the primer material is also abraded or etched, and a second coat of non-stick fluorinated hydrocarbon material applied over the coat of primer material to cover the primer material, for a total thickness of about three mils. The stainless steel blade is completely covered by the coatings but the thickness of the coatings is not so great as to prevent conduction of radio-frequency electrical energy from the blade through the coatings to tissue being cut.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing thermoplastic polymer films by coextrusion comprising coextruding by blow extrusion at least two thermoplastic polymers, one of the polymers being a semi-crystalline fluid polymer, the other a thermoplastic polymer incompatible with and with no adhesive affinity for the semi-crystalline fluid polymer and possessing sufficient extrudate strength to support the semi-crystalline polymer, cooling the coextrudate, separation of the resulting films, and recovering at least the semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer film thus formed in the form of a film of substantially uniform thickness.

Abstract: A process for preparing polymers and copolymers based on vinyl chloride by mass polymerization of a monomer composition based on vinyl chloride, comprising carrying out at least part of the polymerization reaction in a polymerization zone defined by an essentially spherical wall by effecting in the said polymerization zone a controlled and regulated circulation of the polymerization reaction mixture by means of a rotated blade-type turbine assembly, where the said blades pass by in the vicinity of the said wall over 10% to 60% of its surface, the reaction mixture being caused by the centrifugal force of said rotated blade-type turbine assembly to perform an at least partially ascending movement over at least part of the spherical wall and falling back, essentially under the action of gravity in the central part of the spherical polymerization zone, thus ensuring intensive mixing without dead space.
