  • Patent number: 4078211
Abstract: In multiple aperture electronic particle detecting apparatus, there are variations in the physical construction of the apertures intended to be identical, as a result of which the signals produced by the identical sized particle, if passed through all of the apertures, will not be identical. Each apparatus in which a multiple aperture arrangement is used requires many adjustments to be made in balancing the apparatus to compensate for the variations in the signals produced. A method and electronic circuit are disclosed which enable simplified balancing of the detecting means of the apparatus without the need for the many adjustments required heretofore. Particles of unknown size in suspension are passed through the apertures and the current supplied to all but one of the apertures is adjusted to render the signals produced of equal amplitude.

  • Patent number: 4075730
Abstract: Squeegee construction for showerbath surfaces which is water impervious. The squeegee construction comprises a hollow, relatively rigid, plastic T-shaped handle mounting an extruded integral squeegee that is formed of two different durometers of plastic material. A rigid backbone portion engages in between rigid non-spreadable jaws defined by an elongate groove formed in the crossbar portion of the handle requiring an endwise entry and an elastomeric squeegee blade protrudes from the crossbar to provide the squeegee function. The squeegee is secured by means of protrusions extending from the rigid backbone into openings formed in the crossbar portion of the handle.

  • Patent number: 4041385
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a concentration study of particles in a large system of continuously flowing fluid which is coupled to a sampling chamber that has a detector of the Coulter type therein. A regulator is provided to maintain constant the pressure in the sampling chamber irrespective of pressure changes in the large system. The regulator establishes a boundary surface between fluid from the sampling chamber and a column of liquid, such as mercury, immiscible with said fluid and of greater density than said fluid; whereby, a predetermined pressure is produced at said surface and permits sample fluid to pass through said column liquid as the pressure on the fluid variably exceeds the pressure at the boundary surface.

  • Patent number: 4019550
Abstract: A sealing nut having a shouldered insert of heat stabilized-lubricated nylon with a protruding crown, locked into a recess provided at one end of the nut body by means of a coined lip engaging the shoulder. Sealing is effected when the nut is engaged on a threaded male member and screwed against a bearing surface through which the male member extends by exterior folding of the crown upon itself and confining the resulting fold within the lip, said lip being brought into metal-to-metal engagement with the bearing surface.

  • Patent number: 4014773
Abstract: A method of electrolytic treating elongated materials such as hoop materials, rods and wires and an apparatus for carrying out the method comprising a treating unit consisting of unit halves comprising a through passage for feeding the material to be treated, insulating passages for flowing a treating liquid onto the surfaces of the material to be treated, electrodes for flowing electric current between the material and the electrodes and an insulating shield for shielding portions of the material not to be treated. When the material is fed continuously or intermittently through the treating unit while electric current flows between the electrodes and the material, the material is subjected to the electrolytic treatment or plating, of which plated portions are of desired size, shape and location on the material.

  • Patent number: 3994483
Abstract: A spring having three juxtaposed elastic blades connected to each other only at each end by two transversal portions. The central blade is cambered in a first direction and the two lateral or outside blades are cambered in an opposite second direction. The width of each blade diminishes to a minimum half-way between the middle of each end to equally distribute stresses applied to the spring, so that no lateral displacement of the spring will take place when it is compressed. The middle portion of the central blade has a protrusion adapted to make contact with an electrical component such as a battery. The two lateral blades each have a downwardly extending tongue at their center portion to bear against a bearing element, so there is electrical contact between the battery and the bearing element via the spring.

  • Patent number: 3974468
Abstract: Contact carriers for relays are produced by electrochemically plating sheets of electrically conductive nonmagnetic metal with iron. The sheets have a width corresponding to the intended length of the contact carriers. The sheets are then cut in strips across the width of the sheets to form the contact carriers. The sheets can be plated on one or both sides. Following the plating step and before cutting the strips from the sheet, the sheet can be mechanically treated, as by rolling, to increase the resiliency of the sheet. The sheet can be masked during the plating operation to produce contact carriers with unplated portions on the plated sides of the carriers. A contact element can be mounted on the plated or unplated portion of the contact carrier and more than one contact element can be mounted on each carrier. The contact carriers and contact elements can be arranged in relays in many combinations utilizing the forces of attraction and repulsion.

  • Patent number: 3973751
Abstract: A liquid siphon including a tank and a pair of concentric shells within the tank. One end of the external-most shell has an enlarged bell part formed thereon. A deformable gasket is retained against an interior portion of the bell part to close the same. A passageway in the bell part communicates the interior thereof with the outside surface and is closed by the gasket when the same is deformed by priming the siphon.

  • Patent number: 3945317
Abstract: Automatic registration of the web of sheet material on a printing cylinder is effected in a silk screen printing apparatus which includes a printing frame reciprocably movable in an impressing and return cycle. A printing cylinder is arranged for carrying a web of sheet material in impression receiving relation to said printing frame during the impression-forming portion of its movement. Web guide rollers are arranged to direct the web to and from said printing cylinder. A first drive arrangement, including a first motor, is connected both to drive the printing frame reciprocably and said printing cylinder unidirectionally in the impression-receiving direction. The printing cylinder is disengaged from the first drive during the reverse travel of the printing frame so that the web is stationary. A second drive arrangement is provided, including a second motor, connected to drive the printing cylinder in a second direction, that is the reverse of the printing direction.

  • Patent number: 3944797
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the correct particle sizes at predetermined percentiles of the size distribution of a particulate system having a known size distribution characteristic such as for example a normal or log-normal size distribution, wherein a portion of the particles are too small to be measured. The particulate system is first passed through a particle detecting device which can be of the Coulter type. The particle detecting device produces particle pulses proportional to the size of the particles in the particulate system which can be measured. At least three percentile size determining circuits receive the particle pulses and develop first, second and third particle size signals respectively, indicating the size of the particles in the particulate system at the first, second and third predetermined percentiles.
