  • Patent number: 7721153
Abstract: System, method and computer program product for recovering from a failure of a computing device. Start up of a first component of the device is monitored and a determination is made whether the first component has started successfully. If so, a second, higher level component of the device is started. Operational data received from the second component is monitored. If the operational data falls outside of an operational boundary, an action is performed on the second component to enable the second component to operate within a preferred operational boundary. If the first component does not start up successfully, a determination is made if start up of the first component is critical to operation of the second component. If so, a corrective action is performed relative to the first component and afterwards, an attempt is made to start up the second component.

  • Patent number: 7551073
Abstract: A method, system and program product for alerting an information technology support organization of a security event is provided. The method includes storing in a trouble ticket alerting system trouble tickets corresponding to security events logged for a system. Further, the method includes analyzing, at a pre-determined time interval, recently logged security events among the security events logged, the recently logged security events being logged within the pre-determined time interval, comparing a recent security event of the recently logged security events to each of the trouble tickets, automatically creating a new trouble ticket when no match is found to an existing trouble ticket and if the recent security event matches an existing trouble ticket, escalating the existing trouble ticket, such that an information technology support organization is alerted of the recent security event so that appropriate action can be taken to alleviate the recent security event.

  • Patent number: 7519691
Abstract: A system, method and program product for updating first and second parameters of a recipient computer console from first and second donor computer consoles. The recipient console registers with the first donor console to receive notification when the first donor console has an update to the first parameter. The recipient console registers with the second donor console to receive notification when the second donor console has an update to the second parameter. After registering the recipient console with the first donor console, the recipient console receives the notification from the first donor console and updates the first parameter from the first donor console accordingly. After registering the recipient console with the second donor console, the recipient console receives notification from the second donor console and updates the second parameter from the second donor console accordingly. The parameters can be a help desk phone number, an identity of an authorized user or an authorization of a user.

  • Patent number: 7512974
Abstract: System and computer program product for updating an SSL certificate for a server. First program instructions detect when a change has been made to a name, domain or IP address of the server and detect that the server is using an SSL certificate based on a name, domain or IP address applicable before the change. In response, the first program instructions notify an administrator that a change is required to the SSL certificate to reflect the change to the name, domain or IP address. Second program instructions respond to a request by the administrator, to automatically create a new SSL certificate signing request. The new SSL certificate signing request is a form which can be sent to an SSL certificate authority. Third program instructions respond to another request by the administrator, to send the new SSL certificate signing request to the SSL certificate authority.

  • Patent number: 6408651
Abstract: An apparatus and method of manufacturing optical waveguides that comprises non-optically measuring the average temperature of a moving optical waveguide fiber as it exits a heated draw furnace using a temperature device. The device comprises an enclosed chamber that has a plurality of differential thermopiles secured to the inside surface, and a cooling system that substantially maintains a reference surface temperature of one end of each of the thermopiles. Each of the thermopiles are serially interconnected, whereby, in response to a maximum amount of radiant energy absorbed, the thermopiles generate an output signal. The output signal is substantially proportional to the maximum amount of radiant energy absorbed by the thermopiles, which in turn is substantially proportional to the fourth power of the average temperature of the moving optical waveguide fiber within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6196755
Abstract: The invention provides a locking device for locking two matching lens cell halves of a lens cell. In particular, the invention resides in clips which are located at the joint where the two cell halves mate. The clips, which are molded as part of each cell half, are each comprised of a male member which is inserted into a female member. The male member includes a flexible tab which is deflected when inserted into the female member. After insertion, it is maintained in a deformed state, that is the tab is maintained by the female member so that it is bent from its original position. As a result, a bending moment is induced and maintained in the tab and that moment pushes the tab against an outer wall of the female member. Consequently, forces are established which lock the male member in place. Additionally, the wall of the female member exerts a force on the tab and that force, which is inwardly directed, serves to lock together the two halves and ensures retention of the lens units within the lens cell.

  • Patent number: 6104554
Abstract: A projection television lens system having a device that distorts for telescopically adjusting an A/B assembly, the tubular member that carries the A and B lens elements within a focus mount of a projection television lens system. Additionally, at one end of the lens, there is provided a fixed mounting site, i.e. a mounting site which is fixed in position with respect to the CRT 9 assembly. A device is then provided which connects the fixed mounting site to the tubular member. The thermal and structural characteristics of the device are selected so that the device itself distorts in response to temperature changes and thereby moves the A and B lens elements toward or away from the C element in response to, respectively, increased or decreased ambient temperature. In the most preferred embodiment, the fixed mounting site is on the focus mount at the image side of the lens assembly.
