  • Patent number: 7068806
Abstract: A highly miniaturized (condensed) speaker system provides the same desirable performance characteristics as a full size acoustic suspension speaker system by incorporating a combination of one or more low pressure chambers and optionally one or more high pressure gas chambers to emulate the higher internal air volume of the full size acoustic suspension speaker system. The low pressure chamber(s) include the majority of the back (enclosed) side of the speaker diaphragm to eliminate the rigid air spring normally associated with small, enclosed volumes of air at atmospheric pressure. The high pressure gas chamber(s) provide a force to the back (enclosed) side of the diaphragm to counter the atmospheric pressure force on the face (exposed) side of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 7042655
Abstract: The present embodiments provide methods, apparatuses, and assemblies for use in producing a desired output beam that meets a desired intensity prescription. An apparatus can include an input surface, and an optically active output surface that receives a collimated beam, such that the output surface refractively maps an illuminance distribution of the collimated beam into a prescribed intensity pattern. The apparatus can include a collimating lens that collimates an input beam. Additionally, the output surface can be defined according to a cumulative illumination integral for the illuminance distribution and a cumulative illumination integral of the intensity pattern.

  • Patent number: 7021797
Abstract: An optical device is for spatially displacing the output of a light-emitting diode (LED) and coupling the output to a predominantly spherical emission pattern produced at a useftul height above the LED. The device is made of a transparent dielectric material, such as an injection-molded plastic. It comprises a lower transfer section that receives the LED's light from below and an upper ejector section that receives the transferred light and spreads it spherically. One or more LEDs. are optically coupled to the bottom of the transfer section, which operates by total internal reflection upon their entire hemispherical emission. One embodiment operates as a flashlight-bulb substitute with the ejector section radiating onto a parabolic reflector, which forms the beam. Thus hemisphencally emitting LEDs can be used in parabolic-mirror flashlights wherein these LEDs by themselves may be unsuitable for that role.

  • Patent number: 7006306
Abstract: The present embodiments provide methods and apparatuses for providing prescribed illumination. Some embodiments provide lenses that include a two-dimensional beam-forming lens-profile where the profile acts to deflect light rays from a light source into a relatively narrow output beam. A zone of higher refractive index than that of the area outside the profile is enclosed where the higher refractive-index zone admits the light rays, a transverse axis of revolution is further included and extends transversely across and outside of the lens-profile so that the transverse axis extends generally laterally with respect to a luminous centroid-direction of the output beam. The lens further includes a surface of revolution formed by circularly sweeping the lens-profile about the axis of revolution forming a circumferential beam from the output beam emitted by said surface of revolution.

  • Patent number: 6922968
Abstract: A holder for use in building construction to hold anchor bolts, rebar, in-concrete plumbing, and the like elements, in predetermined positions during the pouring of concrete therearound. The holder includes an elongated base plate having front and rear ends, opposite side edges, a top surface and a bottom surface, the front end of the base plate having an end hole therethrough; a sleeve extending from the base plate over the end hole for receiving such an element; and reinforcing members projecting from the base plate and extending lengthwise and transversely of the plate. The holder preferably is molded in one piece from a suitable brightly colored plastic so that it can be more easily seen after the concrete has been poured, thereby partially covering it. The integration of the base plate, the sleeve, and the reinforcing members in one-piece and out of plastic provides a lightweight, durable, low cost holder for the purposes described.

  • Patent number: 6896381
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an apparatus and the apparatus being configured to convert a first distribution of an input radiation to a second distribution of output radiation. The method consists of the steps of generating a two-dimensional representation of at least three active optical surfaces of an optical device including calculating a segment of a first surface based on edge ray sets as a first generalized Cartesian oval, calculating a segment of an entry surface based on the edge ray set as a second generalized Cartesian oval, calculating a segment of a second surface based on the edge ray set as a third generalized Cartesian oval, and successively repeating the steps of calculating the segment of the first surface and calculating the segment of the second surface in a direction towards a source, and rotationally sweeping the two-dimensional representation about a central axis providing a three-dimensional representation of the optical device.

  • Patent number: 6892430
Abstract: A hand tool that greatly expedites the installation of the valve locks that secure a valve spring retainer to the free end of a valve stem. The valve locks include an inwardly extending ridge that engages a circumferential groove that extends around an end portion of the valve stem. The valve lock is retained in this position by a tapered central bore of the valve spring retainer that produces an inward clamping force on the valve lock. The tool includes a plunger having a diameter equal to the diameter of the valve stem. The user positions the valve locks on the protruding cylindrical surface of the plunger, where they are held by magnetic attraction. The user pushes the end of the tool against the valve spring retainer, thereby compressing the valve spring so that the valve stem pushes the plunger into a close-fitting loader end cap until the valve locks are transferred to the valve stem and into engagement with the circumferential groove.

  • Patent number: 6803607
Abstract: This invention relates to a surface mountable light emitting device in which the lead frame is exposed over a substantial portion of the underside of the device so as to allow greater thermal conductivity to any device on which it may be mounted. The LED provides the lens and a molded body to encapsulate the lead frame and an electrical contact in a single molding step while the lead frames and further contacts are arranged in a suitable array. The lens couples the luminous output of a light-emitting diode (LED) to a predominantly spherical pattern comprises a transfer section that receives the LED's light within it and an ejector atop it that receives light from the transfer section and spreads it spherically. Applications may include, but are not limited to, household light bulbs and car headlights.

  • Patent number: 6789041
Abstract: An apparatus and method for use in conversion of bidirectional signals are provide. Some embodiments, use dual-value up/down counters chained together to alter the ratio of input to output signals between N and N+1 such that an averaged output is a non-integral multiple of the input. The maximum value for each counter can be N or N+1 according to the next counter. An output signal is asserted when the maximum value is reached, and a count signal is output on the next up count, resetting the counter to zero. An output signal is asserted when the counter equals zero, and a count signal is output on the next down count, setting the counter to the currently selected maximum value. Direction signal is common to counters, and count output is count input of the next counter. Output count of first counter is final circuit count output.
