  • Patent number: 4343624
Abstract: A three stage hydrogen generator (10), comprises a low BTU, carbon monoxide and hydrogen containing gas generation stage, a first reactor stage (12) for exothermically reducing ferric oxide with the low BTU gas and for generating superheated steam and a second reactor stage (14) for endothermically reacting steam and iron to produce substantially pure hydrogen gas. The hydrogen gas together with unreacted steam from the third stage (16) is directed to a condenser (18), preferably an air cooled unit, wherein the steam is condensed and the hydrogen gas recovered. The condensate (20) is cycled back to the second reactor (14) as the feed water for generating superheated steam and the heated cooling air (22) is directed to the first stage (12) for use in the generation of the low BTU gas. At least one, and preferably all, of the stages utilize a rotating fluidized bed. Desirably the condenser (18) is a rotating fluidized bed heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4341149
Abstract: A fluid control system for selectively holding a work implement, such as a blade in a motor grader or the like, in a fixed position in a first operation mode, and for selectively providing a shock absorbing system (70,72) for the implement in a second operating mode. In the fixed position mode, lock valves (36,38,68) are operative to provide positive locking for an implement actuator (24,26), while in the shock absorbing mode, longstem lock valves (82,84) are operable to maintain one check valve (102) of a dual valve structure (96,98) unseated at all times. Each unseated check valve (102) provides a connection of one end of an implement actuator (24,26) to vent to insure that the shock absorbing system (70,72) maintains a full shock absorbing capacity.

Abstract: PCT No. PCT/US79/00664 Sec. 371 Date Aug. 30, 1979 Sec. 102(e) Date Aug. 30, 1979 PCT Filed Aug. 30, 1979 PCT Pub. No. WO81/00600 PCT Pub. Date Mar. 5, 1981A lock valve (10) for use in a hydraulic system (90) for positioning the work implement of an earth working machine which includes first and second check valves (28, 30) and a piston section (60, 70, 62, 72) for each operable by pilot fluid. In a first mode, the piston sections (60, 70, 62, 72) permit seating of both check valves, while in a second mode, the piston sections interlock so that only one check valve can seat. The lock valve (10) operates in a hydraulic system (90) to lock a work implement, such as a blade for a motor grader, in a fixed position during a first operating mode, while providing a connection from one end of an implement actuator to vent during a second operating mode to insure that a shock absorbing means for the implement hydraulic system maintains a full shock absorbing capacity.

  • Patent number: 4277938
Abstract: PCT No. PCT/US 79/00843 Sec. 371 Date Oct. 15, 1979 Sec. 102(e) Date Oct. 15, 1979 PCT Filed Oct. 15, 1979 A combination rotating fluidized bed combustor and rotating fluidized bed heat exchanger particularly adaptable as the combustor and heat exchange unit, respectively, of conventional gas turbine engines is preferably arranged with the combustor nested within the heat exchanger for maximum compactness. The heat exchanger comprises an annular fluidized bed, defined by inner and outer spaced apart coaxial cylindrical, perforated walls, which rotates about the longitudinal axis of the cylinders. The bed is comprised of pulverulent inert particulate material and includes fluid-containing heat exchange tubes passing substantially longitudinally therethrough. Hot gases, such as turbine exhaust gases, enter the bed through the outer perforated wall, heat and fluidize the bed particles, heat the gas, usually compressed air, in the tubes, and exit the bed through the inner perforated wall.

  • Patent number: 4242863
Abstract: A dual phase fuel vaporizing combustor, and method for burning, in an annular vaporizing combustor, high viscosity, high carbon/hydrogen ratio hydrocarbon fuels, including such as residual fuels, low grade synfuels and coal-oil slurries. A dual phase vaporizer tube receives alternating introductions of a fuel air mixture of high fuel content, and then a hot air or low fuel content mixture, to alternately initially discharge from the tube a vapor stream of combined air and partially vaporized fuel, the initial vapor stream impinging onto a hot surface where more volatile portions of fuel will vaporize and burn, while less volatile heavier fuel components will form a hot carbon deposit on the surface; and alternately and sequentially discharge from the tube a hot, highly oxidizing stream with little or no fuel and impinge the sequential stream onto the carbon deposit on the hot surface and thereby promote substantial burning of the carbon.

  • Patent number: 4081801
Abstract: The electronic measuring system includes a novel power supply which may receive power from a D.C. or A.C. source but which is particularly adapted to convert D.C. battery power to higher voltage pulses to drive a transducer. During intervals between transducer power pulses, an automatic drift compensation system stores an indication of system drift for use during a subsequent power pulse period. The system includes stability sensing means which render the system inoperative for measurement purposes when the signal from the measuring transducer is unstable. To compensate for a loss of time, the system automatically operates for a short period at a rapid rate subsequent to a period of input signal unstability.A novel indicator system and indicator control unit is employed wherein up-down counters are controlled in the indicator for rounding purposes.
