  • Patent number: 6036449
Abstract: A system and method for air compressor control wherein the air compressor is loaded only when engine activities require it to be loaded or when free engine power is available to operate the compressor. An air compressor system is an engine-driven, piston-type compressor which operates in a loaded and an unloaded mode and provides air to a vehicle's air powered devices, such as service brakes, air suspension, windshield wipers, etc. The operating mode of the compressor is controlled by a pressure activated air governor which applies an air signal when pressure in a reservoir reaches a set level that activates a cap valve on an unloader stopping the air compressor. When the air pressure in the reservoir drops below a lower set pressure or when energy is "free," such as during downhill operations, the air governor exhausts the air signal allowing the air compressor to resume operation.

  • Patent number: 6032637
Abstract: An engine control system for controlling operation of an engine of a type injecting fuel directly into a combustion chamber in different injection modes according to engine operating conditions has a map of engine control values with respect to specified engine operating conditions at intersection points of a grid pattern in which engine control values at extreme intersection points adjacent to a boundary between adjacent injection modes is discontinual. The engine control system calculates an engine control value for an engine operating condition by interpolation with the aid of engine control values at the intersection points and determines an engine control value for an engine operating condition at a point closer to the boundary than the extreme intersection point of one injection mode based on engine control values at intersection points of the one injection mode only.

  • Patent number: 6030869
Abstract: A method for fabricating a nonvolatile semiconductor memory device having a stacked gate portion, including a tunnel insulating film, a floating gate electrode, a capacitive insulating film and a control gate electrode, formed over a p-type Si substrate. In the p-type Si substrate, n.sup.++ source/drain layers and n.sup.+ source/drain layers, each layer containing arsenic, are formed. In the drain region, an n.sup.- drain layer, containing phosphorus and overlapping with an entire edge of the stacked gate portion in the gate width direction, and a p layer surrounding the bottoms of the n.sup.+ and the n.sup.- drain layers are provided. In such a structure, an electric field applied between the floating gate electrode and the drain is weakened and the drain-disturb characteristics are improved during writing.

  • Patent number: 6030277
Abstract: A method for accurately and economically shaping a zirconia workpiece with a relatively inexpensive silicon carbide grinding wheel is provided. The grinding wheel used in the method preferably utilizes 220 mesh silicon carbide particles bound in a low porosity vitreous matrix. The grinding wheel is then rotated at a sufficient speed to implement a grinding operation, and is engaged against the zirconia workpiece at a diametral feed rate of at least 0.04 mm/sec. The method advantageously removes material from the zirconia workpiece at a high rate of speed with minimal wheel wear, and results in accurate cuts and smooth surface finishes, and also eliminates the need for dressing the wheel prior to the grinding operation.

  • Patent number: 6029913
Abstract: A swirl tip injector nozzle housing is provided for a fuel injector which includes a fuel atomization enhancing feature for creating effective fuel atomization and breakup during discharge from the injector. The fuel atomization enhancing feature includes a plurality of curvilinear spray holes having an angle of curvature equal to approximately 90 degrees. Fuel flowing from the inlet of each spray hole to the outlet is induced, by the 90 degree angle of curvature, to flow through a tangential flow path or swirl within the spray hole causing rapid spreading and breakup of the fuel jet spray upon exiting the outlet of the spray hole. The fuel atomization enhancing feature may also include positioning each spray hole so as to extend orthogonally from the interior surface of the fuel cavity to create optimal entry of the fuel into the tangential flow path.

  • Patent number: 6026744
Abstract: In stencil printing, a printing matrix is thermally made in a printing matrix area on a stencil material on the basis of image information representing an image on an original. The printing matrix area is determined according to the sheet size of printing paper sheet. The stencil thus obtained is wrapped around a printing drum and a printing paper sheet fed toward the printing drum is pressed against the printing drum by a pressure member. A memory which is provided on the printing drum side stores information on the area of the printing matrix. The sheet size is compared with the area of the printing matrix based on information extracted from the memory. When the former is smaller than the latter, printing is inhibited and an error signal which advises against printing is output.

  • Patent number: 6025630
Abstract: A silicon oxide film is formed to cover an island non-monocrystalline silicon region by plasma CVD using an organic silane having ethoxy groups (e.g., TEOS) and oxygen as raw materials, while hydrogen chloride or a chlorine-containing hydrocarbon (e.g., trichloroethylene) of a fluorine-containing gas is added to the plasma CVD atmosphere, preferably in an amount of from 0.01 to 1 mol % of the atmosphere so as to reduce the alkali elements from the silicon oxide film formed and to improve the reliability of the film. Prior to forming the silicon oxide film, the silicon region may be treated in a plasma atmosphere containing oxygen and hydrogen chloride or a chlorine-containing hydrocarbon. The silicon oxide film is obtained at low temperatures and this has high reliability usable as a gate-insulating film in a semiconductor device.
