  • Patent number: 6036449
Abstract: A system and method for air compressor control wherein the air compressor is loaded only when engine activities require it to be loaded or when free engine power is available to operate the compressor. An air compressor system is an engine-driven, piston-type compressor which operates in a loaded and an unloaded mode and provides air to a vehicle's air powered devices, such as service brakes, air suspension, windshield wipers, etc. The operating mode of the compressor is controlled by a pressure activated air governor which applies an air signal when pressure in a reservoir reaches a set level that activates a cap valve on an unloader stopping the air compressor. When the air pressure in the reservoir drops below a lower set pressure or when energy is "free," such as during downhill operations, the air governor exhausts the air signal allowing the air compressor to resume operation.

  • Patent number: 6036259
Abstract: A motor vehicle roof with movable cover element (13) which can close or selectively at least partially expose a roof opening (12) in a fixed roof surface (11). There is an electrical cable connection between the cover element (13) and the fixed roof surface (11). The cable connection is attached at one point to, cover element (13) and at a different point securely to the roof. The electrical connection is formed of a ribbon cable which is bent in a U shape in its longitudinal direction between the attachment points (21, 27) and is essentially planar in its transverse direction between the attachment points (21 and 27). The ribbon cable (20) peals off of the contact surface (23) provided on cover element (13) and/or the roof contact surface (26) when the cover element (13) is moved and is reapplied in an opposite direction of movement.

  • Patent number: 6035923
Abstract: A porous composite forming material is held in a cavity of a casting mold, and molten light alloy is poured into the cavity of the casting mold through a gate. Then a gas pressure is applied to the cavity in the casting mold with the cavity closed, thereby impregnating the pores of the porous composite forming material with the molten light alloy and forming a composite portion formed of a composite material of the light alloy and the composite forming material.

  • Patent number: 6036174
Abstract: For some powered drum winches, e.g. in sailing boats, it is desirable that the drum can be driven with two different speeds. Basically, this is no technical problem, but it has been difficult to achieve both a high efficiency and a simple construction. It has been proposed that with the use of a plural shaft gear an advantageous result is obtainable in making the gear drive the drum with two different speeds based on a reversible driving motor being driven in one or the opposite direction. This control principle is also used in the present connection in which, however, it is disclosed how the relevant gear can be designed in a compact and inexpensive manner about only a single gear shaft.

  • Patent number: 6035985
Abstract: A flat belt 6 is wound around between an annular friction surface 2 at a periphery of a first rotatable member 1 and an arc-like friction surface 4 of a rocking portion 3 of a second rotatable member 5 which is relatively rotatably supported on the first rotatable member 2, and an initial tension is applied to the flat belt 6. With relative rotation movement between the rotatable members 1 and 5 in a locking or free direction, the rocking portion 3 is rocked around a rocking axis Q by the flat belt 6. By virtue of such rocking movement of the rocking portion 3, the tension of the flat belt 6 is increased up to a higher value than the initial tension or decreased down to a lower value than the initial tension. This permits connection or disconnection of the transmission of torque between the rotatable members 1 and 5 in dependence on the relative rotational direction of the rotatable members 1 and 5.

  • Patent number: 6036149
Abstract: A hanger which accommodates walls made of gypsum boards of varying thickness while allowing heavy items to be hung from the hanger. The hanger features a front plate, a backing plate and a hanger-screw. The item to be hung being suspended from the hanger-screw. The hanger is inserted into a perforation or hanger opening in the gypsum board. The hanger is introduced into the hanger hole so as to allow the backing plate to rotate about the hook of the front plate. The front plate is then pulled toward the user until the backing plate contacts a back wall of the gypsum board. The front plate is then bent in a direction so as to be substantially parallel to the backing plate and the gypsum board and so that complementary attachment holes in the backing plate and the front plate align so that the hanger-screw can engage both sets of holes. The hanger-screw is engaged into the backing plate and front plate and the gypsum board up until the stop portion of the hanger-screw abuts the front plate.
