Patent number: 7666909Abstract: D-glyceric acid has been found to enhance alcohol metabolism and thereby prevent adverse effects of alcohol consumption. D-glyceric acid is administered concurrently with alcohol, to accelerate the elimination of the alcohol from the body. D-glyceric acid is converted into D-glyceraldehyde and further into glycerol in reactions catalysed by NADH-aldehyde dehydrogenase and NADH-alcohol dehydrogenase complexes, which are produced in excess during alcohol oxidation, in the cells of alcohol-metabolising tissues. In these reactions, the NADH complexes become NAD-aldehyde dehydrogenase and NAD-alcohol dehydrogenase complexes. These complexes in turn accelerate the oxidation of alcohol, which is paralleled by enhancement of acetaldehyde oxidation to metabolically harmless acetic acid. D-glyceric acid or its salt or ester is used for the manufacture of a pharmaceutical preparation for enhancing the metabolism of alcohol.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2005Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Inventor: Pekka Heino

Patent number: 7621069Abstract: A fishing accessory is provided which includes a body defining a longitudinal passage in which a fishing line is receivable, and defining a slot extending laterally from the passage to an outside of the body. A resilient helical element is axially receivable within the passage with an interference fit, and extends helically from a rear end of the body to engage a fishing lure, disposed on a fishing hook. The accessory is secured on the fishing line by passing the fishing line through the slot into the passage, winding the fishing line through adjacent coils of the helical element, sliding the helical element into the passage, and securing a rear end of the helical element to the lure. A locking member may also be inserted into the passage. The fishing accessory may be installed on the fishing line without having to untie the fishing line from the fishing hook.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2002Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Inventor: Francis Archibald Holtskampf

Patent number: 7607862Abstract: A device for converting the energy of water waves or flowing water into electrical or mechanical energy. The device includes a body or collection chamber with a hydro-turbine located opposite the water entrance and, preferably, a water clear out channel flange located beneath the hydro-turbine and at or upstream of the water exhaust from the device. As the water is channeled by wave facing directional blades and a wave leveler through and exits the hydro-turbine or pump, it has free exit into a water void area which is produced by the deep water, with its own flotation apparatus or moorings, or near shore, held by supports secured to the seabed or other structures. The device also exhibits a “tip up, tip down” synchronous motion as wave fronts advance through and passed the device, which increases the efficiency of the device by accelerating the flow of water therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2006Date of Patent: October 27, 2009Inventor: Arden L. Thorsbakken

Patent number: 7429026Abstract: A mold, process of using the mold to form a block, and the resultant block are disclosed. The block may of course be connected to other blocks to form stuctures such as walls. The blocks and structures may have curved features for simulating a log structure. The mold and process utilize cemititious material for forming a the block, which has a pair of block members, one of which has a curved outer face. The block members are separated by a central insulation space and connected by rods extending from each block member across the central insulation space. The mold has a body including a pair of block forming cavities. Each cavity has a material ingress-egress opening adapted to receive a block forming composition and to output a block. The block forming cavities are separated a predetermined distance by a space forming central cavity. The mold also has a block ejector movably connected to the body. The ejector has a plate member associated with each cavity, and a handle.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2005Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Inventor: Robert H. Romportl
