Abstract: A maternity support system, comprising a first element and a second element connected to the first element. The first element and the second element are positioned and arranged with respect to each other for a maternity support use, such as supporting an expectant mother's body during pregnancy, supporting a caregiver feeding an infant, supporting an infant during feeding, and supporting an infant learning to sit. The elements may either be integrally formed as a unitary pad, or may be removably attached to each other using a connector, such as VELCRO hook and loop fasteners, for example. In a preferred embodiment, the elements comprise pillow covers adapted for receiving a conventional bed pillow.
Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for obtaining shape changes, motion and/or force in a material having a twinned structure. According to the method, a sufficiently high external magnetic field applied to the material reorients the twin structure thereby producing motion/force. The operation is possible if the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy is higher than or comparable to the energy of the reorientation of the twin structure to produce a certain strain.

A control loop compensation circuit is connected with the current sensing circuit for receiving the feedback signal and with the power supply circuit to provide an error signal. The control loop compensation circuit includes a like plurality of control loop compensation components, each operatively associated with one current sensing element for receiving a feedback signal.
Abstract: A method, which is used to make controlled defects corresponding to natural flaws and residual stresses in various kinds of test pieces. Defects identical to natural flaws are required to qualify non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures. In the method, sequential, repeated, heating-cooling cycles are used to create defects and residual stresses. The shape of the heating and cooling pattern, the duration of the heating and cooling, and the number of thermal cycles are used to control the size of the defects and residual stresses obtained. The defect is grown without initial flaw or other nucleator. The defects correspond to natural flaws in terms of morphology and also of the signals obtained with NDT methods, and are suitable for use in, for example, NDT-qualification blocks.

The caster locking system includes a drum attached to the spindle of the caster wheel(s) and further includes a hitch pin lock having a body and a pin. The drum has a pin aperture through which the pin may extend to prevent the spindle from swiveling.
Abstract: A method and apparatus that pretreat a patient prior to each therapeutic painful stimulus in a series of therapeutic painful stimuli, comprising the application of pain inhibiting stimuli to the patient prior to the application of each therapeutic painful stimulus in the series. Applying pain inhibiting stimuli comprises the steps of sensing a need for a next therapeutic painful stimulus in a series, preparing to deliver the pain inhibiting stimuli to the patient prior to applying the next therapeutic painful stimulus, and delivering the pain inhibiting stimuli to the patient prior to applying the next therapeutic painful stimulus. The method and apparatus are embodied in modern, noninvasive, transcutaneous or transesophageal pacing devices, either as stand-alone cardiac pacemakers, combination pacemaker-ECG monitors, or combination pacemaker-monitor-defibrillators. The pain inhibiting prepulse method is intended primarily for use in conscious patients but may also be used in sleeping patients.

Abstract: A curling broom, comprises a broom head, a broom handle attached to the broom head, and a delivery accessory adapted for attachment to either the broom handle or the broom head in both a first position and a second position. The delivery accessory improves the balance of a person delivering a curling stone in the first position. The delivery accessory is stored in a nonobtrusive manner in the second position enabling the curling broom to be used for conventional sweeping in front of a delivered curling stone. The delivery accessory for comprises a support stand and a mount adapted for attaching the support stand to the curling broom. The accessory is also useable with tools such as shovels, rakes, and the like. A method for delivering a curling stone is also disclosed. The method comprises the steps of attaching a delivery accessory to a curling broom, and delivering the curling stone with one hand and holding onto the curling broom with a second hand as the curling stone is being delivered.
Abstract: A rudder construction for use particularly in light vessels, for example, in kayaks, and including a rudder blade (1) attached permanently to the hull (11) of the vessel and equipped with a thinned zone (9) to allow the main part of the rudder blade to turn, as well as with at least one flexible zone (17) to create flexibility in at least part of the rudder construction in a collision. The rudder construction is manufactured essentially entirely from an elastomeric material. The flexible zone (17) is formed from a weakening in the material thickness of the rudder construction and permits at least part of the rudder blade (1) to bend to the side.

Abstract: A method for determining a cardiac shock strength, for example the programmed first-therapeutic shock strength of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), including the steps of sensing a change in a T-wave of an electrogram with respect to time such as the maximum of the first derivative of a T-wave of an electrogram; delivering a test shock by (i) delivering a test shock at a test-shock strength and at a test-shock time relating to the maximum of the first derivative of the T-wave with respect to time; and (ii) sensing for cardiac fibrillation. If fibrillation is not sensed, test-shock delivery is repeated at the same test-shock strength and at specific, different test-shock times relating to the maximum of the first derivative of the T-wave. If fibrillation is still not sensed, the shock strength is decreased and test shocks are repeated at the same specific test shock times relative to the maximum of the first derivative of the T-wave.
