    Abstract: A control apparatus for an apparatus that cleans the drum of a ready mixed concrete truck includes a CAN-bus control system that includes a nozzle lance position encoder, a boom position encoder, a human-machine interface, a programmable logic controller, and monitors for an engine, hydraulic valves, and pressure sensors. The nozzle lance position encoder includes a rotary encoder, a bi-directional motor, a nozzle lance including a nozzle adapted to discharge water under high pressure, and a swivel assembly to which the nozzle lance is mounted for reciprocating motion. The programmable logic controller enables an operator to control the range of oscillation of the nozzle lance by inputting a desired range of oscillation into the programmable logic controller. An operator can also control extension and retraction of an elongate boom by inputting a desired rate of extension and retraction into the programmable logic controller.

    Abstract: Provided is a system and method of digitally encoding and decoding digital data during the transmission process using a combination of Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and turbo coding. A DSSS de-spreading process is used in place of the outer decoder functional block of a turbo decoder, which removes the need for a dedicated outer ECC code. Removal of the dedicated outer ECC code allows for an increase in the actual data rate transmitted through the channel (compared with a system which uses a discrete DSSS stage after Turbo coding or some other ECC code) because the number of bits to be transmitted for a given data rate has been reduced.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing heavy metals from a thin film stack. A glass or plastic substrate has a front surface and a back surface and a heavy metal thin film is deposited on the back surface. A laser is provided for generating high density radiation. A scanning means directs the high density radiation through the substrate so that the high density radiation impinges upon the heavy metal thin film. The substrate is disposed in contacting relation to a flowing liquid and a liquid bath is provided for containing the flowing liquid and collecting heavy metal that is ablated by the high density radiation. The heavy metals are filtered from the liquid bath. The same parts can also remove heavy metals from both sides of a substrate or may be used to remove only peripheral edges of a thin film stack.

A metallic band abuts the second annular shoulder and a third annular shoulder is formed where the metallic band meets the cylindrical mid-section. A trailing end of a thermoset polymer guide band abuts the third annular shoulder and a leading end abuts the first annular shoulder. The thermoset polymer guide band conforms to the shape and size of the cylindrical mid-section. The thermoset polymer guide band may be impregnated with barrel treatment chemicals so that the barrel is cleaned and lubricated when the projectile is fired.

The polyaxial screw allows versatile angulation between a bone anchor section and a screw body and allows the surgeon to attach a rod to the invention in a top-loading manner and manipulate the rod to accommodate a patient's body and the surgical goals. The screw uses a rod saddle to seat a rod, and permits the surgeon to sagitally manipulate the rod. After implantation of the screw and insertion of the rod, a locking screw is used to fix the angle and position of the rod and screw body.

    Abstract: A method of detecting a compromised machine on a network. The method receives an email message from a machine on the network and classifies it as either spam or non-spam. A probability ratio is then updated, according to whether the message was spam or non-spam, by applying a sequential probability ratio test. If the probability ratio is greater than or equal to a first threshold, then the machine is compromised. If the probability ratio is less than or equal to a second threshold, then the machine is normal. The operations of receiving a message, classifying the message, updating the probability ratio, and indicating the machine is normal or compromised until the probability ratio is greater than or equal to the first threshold are repeated for a plurality of messages. Such repeated operations are performed on each of the messages one at a time, as each of the messages is received.

    Abstract: An automated, non-destructive anhysteretic magnetization characterization method for studying and modeling soft magnetic materials. This measurement method employs a “reading-waveform” that allows multiple points of reference to be established in tracing out the B waveform. In using the reference values from this waveform, the components of B that cannot be measured directly may be calculated with precision. In turn, the initial magnitude of the B waveform is identified as the unknown component of the anhysteretic state. The processes can be repeated for different values of static fields as well as a function of temperature to produce a family of anhysteretic magnetization curves. The core characterization was performed without physically altering the core, so that the true anhysteretic magnetization curve, and the true B-H loop under applied bias H, is measured.

    Abstract: A method for thermally compensating lenses in an optical system for high power lasers includes the steps of providing a fused silica lens to collimate a high power laser beam and positioning that lens in collimating relation to the laser beam. A focusing lens assembly is provided to focus the collimated laser beam and is positioned in focusing relation to the collimated laser beam. At least one lens having a negative dn/dT to offset a heat-induced change in index of refraction of the fused silica lens is included as a part of the collimating lens assembly and as a part of the focusing lens assembly. The lens having a negative dn/dT is selected from a group of glasses having a negative dn/dT. The power of the lenses is balanced with an offsetting negative dn/dT so that the optical system maintains its focus over a wide temperature range.
