  • Patent number: 7185462
Abstract: The present invention relates to structural braces. More particularly, the present invention relates to a brace apparatus that has an effective length capable of undergoing plastic deformation that is greater than the length of the brace apparatus. The brace apparatus has a first core member having a deformable region of an effective deformable length and a second core member having a deformable region of an effective deformable length. The total effective deformable length of the brace apparatus is the sum of the effective deformable length of the first core member and the second core member. This allows the brace apparatus to have a greater deformable length relative to the length and size of the brace. Additionally, the greater deformable length reduces the strain on the core members enabling the brace apparatus to undergo a greater amount of deformation for a larger number of total cycles without buckling the brace.

  • Patent number: 6661212
Abstract: A wideband voltage regulator is configured to provide suppression of fast transients, which can include a boosting circuit and a sensing circuit. The boosting circuit can be suitably configured to boost the voltage regulator response, while the sensing circuit can determine when such a boost may be desired. Accordingly, the response of the voltage regulator can be accelerated to a fast load transient beyond the closed loop bandwidth limited response or the slew rate limited response of the voltage regulator. An exemplary voltage regulator can be configured with an active sensing circuit comprising a sensing amplifier with switch control outputs, and a boosting circuit comprising N stored charge sources, e.g.; boost capacitors, and (3N−1) switches that are configured to accelerate the voltage regulators response to a fast load transient beyond the closed loop bandwidth limited or slew rate limited response of the voltage regulator.

  • Patent number: 6636048
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for using time domain analysis of NEXT, Return Loss and the like, in conjunction with the application of time or distance referenced limits to verify and determine compliance of the performance requirements of connections in a typical link. Time domain analysis of NEXT, Return Loss data and the like suitably provides the performance characteristics of a link as a function of time or distance. When coupled with time or distance performance curves for connections, it can be determined if the transmission fault is at a connection or in the cable. The time limit curves for connections can be generated based on the frequency domain performance requirements for connecting hardware of a specific level of performance. The connection time limit curves thus allows one to determine if the connection is within performance standards, allowing improved isolation of the fault condition.

  • Patent number: 6623430
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the safe delivery of thermosensitive liposomes containing medicant to a targeted tissue region using ultrasound. Thermosensitive liposomes containing medicants are delivered to a region of interest, the region of interest is located using ultrasound imaging, ultrasound therapy is applied to heat the region of interest, and the temperature of the region is monitored to determine whether a designated threshold temperature has been reached which allows for the release of medicants from the liposomes. If the threshold temperature is reached, and the liposomes are melted, the treatment stops. If the threshold temperature has not been reached, the application of ultrasound therapy and ultrasound imaging are alternated until the threshold temperature is reached. The ultrasound imaging, temperature monitoring and ultrasound therapy are preferably performed with a single transducer.

  • Patent number: 6570406
Abstract: A method and circuit for pre-emphasis equalization of a high speed data communication system can be provided through the use of programmable pulse shaping. A data communication system configured with the pre-emphasis equalization circuit operates by receiving an input data stream and outputting a data stream for transmission through an interconnect or other transmission channel. The data can be passed through an output buffer configured with programmable pre-emphasis equalization, having input inverters at an input stage and output inverters at an output stage. During operation, once an input signal to the input stage transitions, for example from a low to a high state, an input signal to the output stage is configured to a full amplitude to drive the transmission channel. Once the output stage transitions to a full amplitude, the input of the output stage is configured closer to a mid-scale amplitude.

  • Patent number: 6559684
Abstract: A system and method for current sensing which is substantially consistent over device, temperature, and process variations is provided. A current sensing system includes a first switch coupled to one or more variable resistive elements. The resistive elements being configured to scale down the voltage across the first switch which is provided to an input of an amplifier. The amplifier is coupled to the resistive elements and the second switch and is configured to sense the voltage across the first switch, and force the voltage across the second switch to be equal to the first switch scaled down voltage. Thus, a current of known proportion can be provided at the output of the amplifier. A driver and timing circuit may be provided to prevent the amplifier from providing an excessive slewing of current during the off period.

  • Patent number: 6540679
Abstract: A non-invasive visual imaging system is provided, wherein the imaging system procures an image of a transducer position during diagnostic or therapeutic treatment. In addition, the system suitably provides for the transducer to capture patient information, such as acoustic, temperature, or ultrasonic images. • Patent number: 6538503
Abstract: An instrumentation amplifier is provided which can provide high common mode rejection without the use of precision resistors. The instrumentation amplifier can be configured in an 8-pin layout, such as, for example, for an MSOP-8 or SO-8 surface mount package. In addition, an instrumentation amplifier can be provided which can effectively cancel the differential mode signal created by common mode input signals, such as those caused by parasitic capacitance and the like. As a result, the instrumentation amplifier can exhibit excellent AC as well as DC common mode rejection. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment, an instrumentation amplifier can comprise two pairs of current mirrors configured with two buffers to suitably add the differential current-mode signals and subtract the common current mode signals of each buffer to thereby cancel the differential mode signal created by common mode input signals, such as those caused by the parasitic capacitances within the instrumentation amplifier.
