  • Patent number: 6655466
Abstract: An apparatus is provided to facilitate sod destruction and decomposition by cutting and crushing primarily horizontal roots and rhizomes while leaving vertical roots uncut. Multiple gangs of colters are attached to a frame, the colter gangs are arranged in staggered relation with respect to each other. The staggered relationship of the colter gangs allows the apparatus to cut relatively narrow strips of sod. A method of operating the apparatus is provided in which the apparatus is operated across a sod field in a first direction to cut the field into long, narrow strips of sod. The apparatus is then operated across the same field in a direction relatively perpendicular to the first direction, cutting the strips of sod into small pieces.

  • Patent number: 6612253
Abstract: An improved apparatus for coupling a tug boat to a barge having a notch in its stern is provided. Coupling units mounted on the opposite sides of the tug have extendable and retractable rams which engage with channels on the opposite sides of the stern notch. Each ram includes two portions. The first portion can be non-rotatable and is extended and retracted by an actuator screw driven by a motor. The second portion can rotate relative to the first portion. Additionally, the second portion is capable of axial movement relative to the first portion. A load cell can be positioned between the first portion and the second portion to provide axial extension of the second portion to provide sufficient engagement force to couple the tug and barge.

  • Patent number: 6609259
Abstract: A drain assembly is provided that eliminates the need for reconfiguring of existing plumbing during installation of a deep-sink assembly while maintaining a suitable working height. The drain assembly including a hollow body, a valve within the body and a mount to operably connect the valve within the hollow body. The hollow body includes an inlet, an outlet, and an inner wall positioned between the inlet and the outlet. A fluid path enters the inlet of the body in a first direction and is diverted to a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction by the inner wall. The diverted fluid path exits the body moving in the second direction. The mount is located at least partially within the outlet.

  • Patent number: 6607212
Abstract: A collision deformation sensor for use within the crush zone of a vehicle consists of first and second spaced apart substrates for mounting to or forming respective vehicle components, with a compressible carrier medium filling the space between the substrates. The carrier medium is formed from a material transparent or translucent to light or other wave energy, and includes wave energy scattering centers dispersed within the medium to create a scattered energy volume. Alternatively the carrier medium forms a hollow cavity, the inside surface of which is coated with a wave energy dispersion coating. A source and receiver of light or other wave energy communicates with the carrier medium. Signal couplings and processors are associated with the source and receiver.

  • Patent number: 6562005
Abstract: A catheter button system for anchoring a catheter to a patient's body tissue, consists of a catheter button having a primary aperture for snugly receiving a catheter tube, and at least one secondary aperture. A cord loop extends through the secondary aperture. The loop is for catching a surgeon's suture needle for fastening the button system to the patient's body tissue. Perferably, the button consists of separate upper and lower components, and the cord loop holds the button components together, as well as serving to anchor the button to a patient's body with a stitch of suture thread. Perferably, the primary aperture is central to the button, and two secondary apertures are spaced equidistant from the primary aperture, on opposing sides of the button. The invention also relates to a method for anchoring a suture to a patient's body, by joining a button to the suture, the button having at least one pre-formed loop.
