  • Patent number: 5784464
Abstract: A key management unit of a service provider system generates an individual key corresponding to a portable module connected to a service client making an access request and informs an authenticating unit of this individual key. The individual key is stored beforehand also in the portable module. A random-number generator generates a random number, transmits this random number to the portable module and informs the authenticating unit of it. The portable module encrypts the random number with the individual key and sends it back to the service provider system. An encrypting portion of the authenticating unit encrypts the random number with the individual key. A comparator of the authenticating unit compares data encrypted by the encrypting portion with encrypted data transmitted from the portable module and, if the two items of data are coincident with each other, confirms an access request from the portable module.

  • Patent number: 5655076
Abstract: An I/O interface control method and data processing equipment each of which can avoid data destruction in an I/O unit even when a channel control unit is in a check/stop state. When an abnormal state notification signal from the channel control unit has been received, the channel element completes an I/O operation in execution to halt a transmission to a new I/O operation. When the abnormal state notification signal delayed by a predetermined time has been received, the main storage control unit separates the channel control unit from the channel element to halt the data transmission. The present invention can be applicable to computer systems each including a DASD acting as an I/O unit.

  • Patent number: 5405798
Abstract: In forming a semiconductor integrated circuit device, a field insulation film is formed on a substrate using a selective thermal oxidation process whereby openings are formed in the insulation film thereby exposing the substrate at certain predetermined active regions. A patterned insulation film is formed on the field insulation film so as to present contact holes corresponding to the openings in the field insulation film. Each of the contact holes has a first pair of opposed edges extending in a first direction and defined by interior edges of the field insulation film and a second pair of opposed edges extending in a second direction and defined by edges of the patterned insulation film. The resultant structure provides a reduced pitch of the contact holes in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 5210861
Abstract: A method for verifying a serializing function in a system including a plurality of processors and a test system including processors for verifying the serializing function. Each processor executes a verifying processing including the steps of: synchronizing an execution status of its own processor with an execution status of another processor; delaying an initiation of a next execution for a predetermined changeable period; issuing and executing a serializing instruction indicating a set of data read and write processings; and verifying whether the serializing instruction is normally executed or not. By controlling a timing of the execution of the serializing instruction at random between each processor, it is possible to verify normality of the serializing function satisfactorily and in a short time, while specifying whether cause for a fault occurring in the entire system is due to the serializing function or not.

  • Patent number: 5007698
Abstract: An optical waveguide having a first cross section is thinned to constitute a thinned portion having a second cross section, as long as a predetermined length. Surface of the thinned portion is contacted with a laser glass member doped with a rare earth element, such as Er. Due to the thinned diameter, the optical fiber is optically coupled with the laser glass member. A pumping light is input to either into the optical waveguide together with a signal light or directly into the laser glass member. Signal light coupled from the thinned portion to the laser glass member is amplified by stimulated emission of the laser glass. Thus amplified signal light is coupled back to the thinned portion so as to propagate along the optical waveguide. The thinned portion can be as short as several centi-meters compared with ten meters to more than one hundred meters of conventional optical amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4663643
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement in a normally off-type high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) having a first single crystalline semiconductor layer, such as an undoped GaAs layer, and a second single crystalline semiconductor layer, such as an N-doped AlGaAs layer, having an electron affinity different from that of the first single crystalline semiconductor layer. A heterojunction is formed between the first and second single crystalline semiconductor layers. An electron-storing layer is formed adjacent to the heterojunctions serving as a conduction channel having a quasi two-dimensional electron gas. The concentration of electron gas is controlled by a gate electrode. An additional semiconductor layer, such as an N-doped GaAs layer, is formed at a portion of the second single crystalline layer in the area adjacent to the gate electrode.

  • Patent number: 4647807
Abstract: A collector includes a carrier bushing, onto which a rim of collector segments is attached by means of swallowtail-type attachment devices. An intermediate space remaining between the carrier bushing and the collector segments is filled with a casting material. An interlocking swallowtail arrangement is used, which fixes the collector segments radially to the carrier bushing in such a way that they cannot come loose. The carrier bushing has a T-profile groove, into which the collector segments can be inserted and pushed onto the carrier bushing in the circumferential direction. After the collector segments have been installed, the T-profile groove is closed with a wedge, which also has a swallowtail structure to hold the single remaining collector segment.
