  • Patent number: 8215325
Abstract: A calf, ankle, foot, or leg rest device which can be snapped onto a cane for use or snapped off when only the use of the cane is desired. The invention also encompasses the combination cane and rest device. Many people who either have a permanent leg, knee, or foot disability or are recovering from a leg, knee, or foot operation are required to keep their leg in a horizontal position while seated. The rest device is a J-shaped soft padded bracket that is rigidly attached to the cane. The height of the bracket along the cane is adjustable to provide comfort and ease of use. The cane may be positioned at a convenient horizontal distance from the user as desired. In this way, the user may rest his or her calf, ankle, or heel on the rest device. Once the rest device is engaged by the user's leg, the cane is perfectly balanced on the ground. A user can comfortably keep his leg in a horizontal position for hours.

  • Patent number: 8066027
Abstract: The Present Invention enables energy to be extracted from the atmosphere by creating a vacuum into which atmospheric air is drawn through a vacuum operated motor. The motor operates on the pressure differential between atmospheric pressure at the motor inlet and the vacuum level created by liquid flowing vertically through a tube via gravity. The greater the pressure differential, the greater the airflow through the motor, and the greater the energy extracted by the vacuum motor. The Present Invention is a workable and sustainable vacuum energy recovery system based on siphon principles, and specifically addresses problem areas immediately identifiable to a siphon-based system with air infusion. A scavenger loop operates independently to prevent air and/or gas from accumulating at the siphon apex. Micro-diffusers designed for sweeping effects across the air-liquid interfaces also provide for the optimal ratios of air volumes and bubble sizes compatible with the liquid flow rates within a given siphon.

  • Patent number: 8015728
Abstract: A shoe insert to be used for heating or cooling the foot. They are to be manufactured and sold as pairs of left and right shoe inserts. The insert has a number of components forming a sandwich within a sandwich. The outer sandwich has the shape of a shoe, and is partly adjustable in size to fit a range of shoe sizes. So, the inserts may be sold in sizes, for example, small, medium, and large, and these sizes may then be fine tuned to fit a sub-range of shoe sizes. The inner sandwich is smaller than the outer sandwich. The inner sandwich is a pouch positioned at the instep which ruptures when pressure is applied. This pouch contains a liquid that can then flow into a cushioned region. The cushioned region contains a chemical, which when combined with the liquid from the pouch, emits heat (exothermic reaction) or absorbs heat (endothermic reaction). An exothermic reaction would heat the foot while an endothermic reaction would cool the foot.

  • Patent number: 7803097
Abstract: An exercise apparatus that lies flat on the floor having a back rest rises up when supported by two springs. The lower part of the back and buttocks lie horizontal while the upper part of the back is inclined at an angle to the horizontal. When not in use, the upper back rest folds down flat so that the device can be stored under a bed. The two springs provide back support when the individual is in the reclining position. However, as a person goes from a sitting position to a reclining position, when his or her shoulders contact the back rest, the springs compress and then expand to assist the individual in rising up. The device has two specially designed positionable foot rests with straps to provide a place for the individual to place his or her feet.

  • Patent number: 7430283
Abstract: A method and a system that will allow a hearing impaired person to access a TRS (Telecommunications Relay Service) center via an Internet terminal on the World Wide Web instead of using a TTY device on the telephone network. The present invention represents a modification or add-on to the methodology and systems currently employed by TRS centers throughout the country. Therefore, a TRS center will be able to handle operator assisted relayed telephone calls both using the present POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and the World Wide Web. Additional equipment will be required for a center to implement the present invention, said equipment comprising a TRS Packet Server and a router connected to the internet. When a hearing impaired customer wishes to place a call, secured communication is first established over the internet with a Nationwide TRS Routing Server. The Nationwide Routing server then finds a TRS center to handle the call.

  • Patent number: 7251643
Abstract: A data processing means for user tunable and selectable (FIG. 2) of a database wherein the data contained therein have associated descriptive properties (FIG. 2) capable of being expressed in numeric form is described. Descriptive property values (FIG. 2) may be standardized numerically to eliminate property value overweighting. A quantized vector (FIG. 2) representative of the descriptive properties is created for each item in the database. This quantized vector becomes the fingerprint for each data item. The user submits a query item to be matched against the database for similarity. A fingerprint is calculated for the query item. The user may then assign weights to the individual descriptive properties based upon perceived importance (FIG. 2). A newly weighted fingerprint for the query item is then compared with the fingerprints for all the data in the database. A list of results is presented to the user (FIG. 2).
