  • Patent number: 5224943
Abstract: A cryosurgical probe for freezing human or animal tissue in a surgical procedure utilising the Joule Thomson effect. The probe is provided with a valve arrangement which enables selective purging and freezing cycles to be employed in rapid succession, and remote from the Joule-Thomson nozzle. In this way purging is limited to those parts of the probe which are affected by moisture contamination during the normal pre-sterilising process, and without interference with the Joule-Thomson nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5195683
Abstract: A film negative and matching proof are held for storage in a receptacle formed from a unitary body of flexible material folded to form panels positioned in overlying relation to form a first pocket and a second pocket. One panel is common to both pockets and serves as a boundary layer between the pockets positioned in back-to-back relationship. One pocket is closed along opposite lateral sides and at one end portion with the opposite end portion remaining open to receive the negative protected against undesired contact. The second pocket is positioned to receive the proof along an open end portion and an open lateral side with the opposite end portion and lateral side being closed to facilitate ease of insertion and removal of the proof.

  • Patent number: 5190384
Abstract: A rotor supports a plurality of marking devices in spaced relation around the arcuate surface of an object to be marked which is fixed relative to the rotor. The rotor is mounted for rotation about an axis which is coaxial with an axis of the object to be marked. The rotor is also linearly movable on the axis. Each marking device includes a single impact pin positioned to extend and retract relative to the object to impress an identification mark, such as a dot, on the arcuate surface of the object. The impact pins are remotely controlled by a computer to inscribe on the object an array of dots in parallel rows to form desired programmed characters on the object. The impact pins are moved in a raster pattern by rotational and linear movement of the rotor in a preselected direction relative to the object. The impact pins are actuated to impress dots on the surface of the object in a first arcuate row.

  • Patent number: 5184923
Abstract: A tapered camming plug positioned within an expansion shell is threaded onto an upper end portion of an elongated bolt advanced behind a resin cartridge system into a bore hole drilled in a rock formation. A bearing plate is carried on the opposite end of the bolt and abuts the rock formation surrounding the bore hole. The cartridge is ruptured by upward thrust and rotation of the bolt to release the resin components for mixing. The mixed resin flows downwardly in the bore hole into surrounding relation with the camming plug and expansion shell. The expansion shell includes a plurality of expansion fingers each formed integral at one end portion with a ring end portion of the shell and extending upwardly to a free end portion for outward expansion into engagement with the wall of the bore hole as the camming plug advances downwardly on the bolt after the resin is mixed.

  • Patent number: 5181800
Abstract: A roof anchor for supporting an underground mine roof or the like is provided. The roof anchor has an elongated shaft with a head formed at one end. The head supports a washer and a roof supporting plate that surrounds the mouth of a blind bore formed upwardly into the roof. A resin capsule is positioned within the blind bore above the roof anchor. The shaft of the roof anchor has an adjustably securable annular washer surrounding the shaft. The annular washer is fixed in a position so that when the resin capsule is ruptured to release the resin to bind the roof anchor within the bore hole, the resin completely fills the bore hole from the blind end of the bore to the rigid annular washer fixed to the shaft of the roof anchor.

  • Patent number: 5180120
Abstract: A main seat support frame includes slidable seat sections to allow the overall length of the seat and the number of sitting positions to be varied as required. The frame is provided with fixing positions for arm dividers which allow delimitation of a predetermined number of sitting positions when the seat is fully expanded corresponding to an economy class configuration and a fewer number of sitting positions of greater sitting width when the seat is contracted corresponding to a business class configuration. Since the width of the seat backs remains constant, bolsters may be attached to them when the seat is contracted for business class usage allowing for rapid conversion of the seating arrangement as between economy and business class usage.

  • Patent number: 5154396
Abstract: A polyethylene plastic valve has a molded cylindrical body portion with an internal chamber with inlet and outlet openings. A unitary plastic plug member is rotatably positioned in the chamber. The plug member has an actuator portion formed of impact resistant plastic material, and a plug portion formed of dimensionally rigid plastic material with a flow passage therethrough. The plug member has open and closed positions. Dual durometer valve seats are positioned on the plug member to close the inlet and outlet openings in the valve body. The actuator portion of the plug member extends upwardly through the chamber and seals the internal chamber at the top by means of a circumferentially extending flange portion. A bottom cover plate is fused to and seals the lower end of the internal chamber. The bottom cover is arranged to disengage from the valve body and relieve excess pressure build up in the lower end of the chamber.

Abstract: A cylindrical drum assembly is rotatably mounted transversely on the front of the boom member of a continuous miner. The drum assembly comprises a pair of independently operable drum sections. Each drum section is driven through an input shaft connected to a motor. The drum sections may be connected by a coupler to form a unitary drum assembly which may be operated by only one of the motors. Torque is transmitted from the input shafts to a bevel gear rotatably supported in the drum section. The bevel gear is nonrotatably connected to a sun gear which in turn drives a plurality of planetary gears connected to a cylindrical planetary cage with a bore defining an inner surface. The cage is connected to a cylindrical inner housing on its outer surface and to an output shaft on its inner surface through a cylindrical shear coupler. A puller shaft is provided to remove the output shaft and the shear coupler.

  • Patent number: 5130664
Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of RF amplification of signals up to 1 GHz. The apparatus, known as a repeater station, is for use in Community Antenna TeleVision transmission (CATV). The RF amplification (gain) stage includes two multitransistor distributed amplifier stages connected in a push-pull configuration. Each distributed amplifier includes four transistors connected to produce two-each cascode circuits. The distributed amplifier stages are operated in push-pull configuration by means of a 180.degree. phase shifting power splitter. The push-pull configuration of the distributed amplifier operates in combination with the 180.degree. phase shifting power splitter to cancel the 2IM distortion created within the distributed amplifiers, and to double the output capability of a single distributed amplifier.

  • Patent number: 5104194
Abstract: A self-propelled continuous mining machine which includes a mobile frame assembly having a material dislodging device, and a conveying system. A dust collecting system is positioned on the mobile frame assembly for inducing a flow of air through a duct system. As material is dislodged from a mine face, the dust collecting system draws airborne dust created by the dislodging device through the duct system and into the collecting system mounted on the mobile frame assembly. The duct system has two sets of vertical walls each connected to and spaced by a horizontal wall with one set of vertical walls fitting channel-like into the other set of vertical walls. The duct assembly has a gasket, seal or other means of preventing airborne dust from escaping through the two sets of vertical walls. The duct assembly is expandable to increase the capacity of the duct system.
