Abstract: An online game that promotes healthy behavior by engaging computer users and by providing educational information about health and nutrition. User participation is measured in relation to an avatar of a belly that gains and loses weight according to game play. Users are assigned an avatar according to answers to profile questions. Users earn points by correctly answering health and nutrition questions. When a user answers a question correctly, the player can help him- or herself or “sabotage” a friend. Users also have options to help a friend. The game has consequences for incorrect answers. Updates to a leader board and a message board allow users to see how friends are doing. Social networking aspects of the game keep users engaged and entertained, and therefore, more likely to participate. Participation helps users to increase their knowledge of health and nutrition facts and therefore, their knowledge regarding healthy behaviors.

Abstract: A preferred embodiment relates to controlling the amount of backlight in an electronic display to account for the temperature in the backlight cavity. Another embodiment relates to a system for controlling the amount of backlight based on both the temperature in the backlight cavity and the amount of ambient light. The embodiments are especially useful in electronic displays which are subjected to cold or warm temperatures and displays which are placed in very bright environments. Exemplary embodiments allow the display to remain visible, while avoiding possible damage due to high levels of heat or cold.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments comprise static and dynamic advertising displays where the backlight is provided by any one of the following: LED's, organic light emitting diodes (OLED), field emitting display (FED), light emitting polymer (LEP), and organic electro-luminescence (OEL). The backlights for both the static and dynamic advertising displays may be constructed of multiple tiles of lights, such that a single tile may be replaced without having to replace the entire backlight assembly. The display may be mounted on a vertical surface, and components may be repaired or replaced without having to remove the entire display from its mounted position.

Abstract: This invention relates to filters made from a refractory material, preferably an insulating material, and chemical binder. The filters are used in the foundry industry to filter molten metal. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the filters.

Abstract: A tax refund system is disclosed in which in exchange for a taxpayer assigning all or a portion of his or her tax refund, a participating provider provides to the taxpayer a spending vehicle with buying power at participating outlets. Tax return data for an individual's tax return is processed by the IRS. A taxpayer consents to using a portion of the tax return data to acquire a spending vehicle from a financial institution of the taxpayer's choosing. Using a portion of the tax return data, the IRS arranges to electronically transfer an amount related to the taxpayer's refund to an account at the financial institution selected by the taxpayer. A taxpayer then receives a spending vehicle such as a credit, debit, or cash card, spending account, coupon, or rebate from a financial institution or other spending vehicle provider such as a retailer, service provider, wholesaler, distributor, or entertainment entity.

Abstract: An improved electrical circuit design and method to drive a plurality of LEDs in an LCD backlight in order to produce a uniform color distribution across the entire viewable surface of the display. The embodiments disclosed have features that permit a predetermined reduction in the amount of current provided to the LEDs positioned along the edge of the display region. This results in color uniformity, and consequently, an improved picture quality.

Abstract: A measuring instrument for gravimetric moisture determination of a sample has a radiator, a weighing cell, and a sample receiver which can be connected to the weighing cell. The sample receiver allows the sample to be placed on or removed from the sample receiver. The radiator is positioned either above or below the sample, or both above and below, relative to the load direction of the weighing cell. A rotatably mounted heat conductor whose axis of rotation is orthogonal to the plane in which the sample or the sample receiver extends is positioned between the radiator and the sample. The heat conductor absorbs at least part of the radiation that impinges upon it and releases the absorbed radiation to the sample through at least one radiation-releasing surface. Through its ability to rotate, the heat conductor irradiates the entire sample surface.

Abstract: A flexible conveyor carrier fixture that can be easily and quickly adjusted to allow for the transport of arts along the same conveyor. For example, a flexible conveyor carrier fixture that allows for the transport of dissimilar body panels along the same overhead conveyor. An exemplary conveyor carrier fixture includes a frame to which one or more cross-rails are attached. At least one of the cross-rails is moveable along the carrier frame to permit the repositioning thereof. At least one of the cross rails is preferably provided with a part support, such as a hanger. The position of the moveable cross-rail(s) can preferably be secured by a releasable retention mechanism. The repositionability of the cross-rail(s) allows the carrier fixture to support a greater number of dissimilar body panels.

The present invention also includes a method for manufacturing a container that has a tear-away top. The method generally includes the steps of providing a substrate layer, making a cut in the substrate layer, and then forming a container. After the container has been formed, a predetermined portion of the top may be torn away from the container at the cut.

Abstract: The invention concerns anti-static, peroxide-stable molding compounds on the basis of polyamides and/or polyesters, whereby the molding compounds are modified with very pure conductive carbon black with a low specific surface area. These anti-static molding compounds can be used for the production of injection-molded or extruded parts and the production of sheets or multi-layer hoses and tubes.
