  • Patent number: 4865906
Abstract: An abrasion and fine resistant permanent press fabric or fabric structure comprising a batting or yarn consisting of an intimate blend of oxidized polyacrylonitrile and at least two fibers selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl halide, polybenzimidazole, p-aramid, m-aramid, fire resistant polyester and fire resistant rayon, said oxidized polyacrylonitrile comprising about 25 to 85% by weight of said yarn and p-aramid comprises less than 35% by weight of said yarn or batting.

  • Patent number: 4857475
Abstract: Labellable reagents for fluormetric assays comprise a cyclic condensation product of a .beta.-diketone, an aldehyde and an NH.sub.2 -bearing macromolecule, for example an antigen or antibody or a substance having an active group to which an antibody or antigen is linked. The reagents can chelate lanthanide metal ions such as Eu(II) and Tb(III) to form fluorescing complexes which can be used as labelled reagents for fluorometric assay of organic substances, for example antigens, antibodies and other substances occurring in body fluids.

  • Patent number: 4801289
Abstract: A rocker pin type continuously variable transmission chain comprising a plurality of link plates connected endlessly by paired rocker pins, each of the load transmitting surfaces of each rocker pin insertion bore having an arcuate portion, opposing the planar portion of each rocker pin, with a radius of curvature greater than that of the convex portions of the rocker pins to prevent rotation of the rocker pins in the bores, whereby load forces are transmitted by extensive surface contact areas.

  • Patent number: 4720957
Abstract: A component for erecting buildings and the like comprises a channel member preferably having a substantially squared-off C-shaped cross section with web portion, two flange portions on the web portion and two inwardly directed lips on the flange portions. A repeating pattern of longitudinally spaced large diameter apertures is provided in the web portion. A longitudinally repeating pattern of small diameter apertures is also provided in the web portion. A longitudinally repeating pattern of apertures is provided in each flange portion including a pentad with an aperture at four corners, defining an imaginary square and an aperture at the center of the square. A plurality of apertures is also provided in the inwardly directed lips. The building component is widely adaptable to a variety of different uses in building construction systems and for innumerable building designs.

  • Patent number: 4721136
Abstract: A binding comb shaping device for producing profile-bent binding combs for comb binding of sheet layers has rotary bending tools with bending sliding edges and/or in the form of rolling members, which, between advance cycles of the binding comb blank, move past shaping edges of shaping anvils in arcuate paths and thereby in a substantially vibration-free manner and at high working speeds give the binding comb blank its profile shape.

  • Patent number: 4407997
Abstract: A marine paint capable of becoming smoother in relatively moving sea water and having no or a low content of organotin comprises a film-forming acrylic polymer and a metalliferous pigment which is sparingly soluble in seawater. The acrylic polymer comprises 20-100 percent by weight of monomer units (A) selected from methyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate units, 0-45 percent by weight of monomer units (B) of a triorganotin salt of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid and 0-80 percent by weight of monomer units (C) which are alkyl methacrylate units having 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or styrene units. Monomer units (A), (B) and (C) form at least 80 percent by weight of the acrylic polymer; the balance of the polymer if any comprises units of at least one other olefinically unsaturated comonomer.

  • Patent number: 4363372
Abstract: A gas-cushion vehicle is provided with a system for reducing dynamic variations in cushion gas pressure. The system comprises a gas-flow outlet connection between a space occupied by cushion gas and the atmosphere. A flexible wall member of inflatable form is disposed within the connection and is operable so as to allow cushion gas to escape to the atmosphere as cushion pressure tends to increase, and to impede the escape of cushion gas as cushion pressure tends to decrease. The flexible wall member provides a flexible barrier maintaining a pressure differential between the space occupied by cushion gas and the atmosphere. Dynamic variations in cushion pressure will alter this pressure differential and the resistance to the escape of cushion gas offered by the wall member will then alter accordingly, so that, if the cushion pressure rises, the resistance will be too weak to contain this pressure and the wall member will deflect to allow cushion gas to escape through the connection.

  • Patent number: PP5812
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of paste-type tomato is derived in part from the "Roma" and in part from Italian banana tomatoes. The plant is characterized by thick stalks and stems, but slender, relatively-sparce light green foliage. The plant flowers early, and sets long, thin blossoms. Maturity is reached in approximately seventy-eight days. Very numerous, uniformly large, low acid fruit are produced in clusters of five or six fruits per cluster and more than thirty fruits per plant. The fruits are meaty and have few seeds. The fruits are extremely large, weighing one to three pounds, and measure twelve to seventeen centimeters in length and five to eight centimeters in diameter in an elongated plum shape.
