  • Patent number: 4707796
Abstract: A Reliability and Maintainability Indicator (RAMI) is disclosed which effectively predicts the remaining time of operation of a system, equipment, component, or device before it would fail to perform its intended functions. The ability of RAMI to predict the remaining time of operation before failure is accomplished by having key parameters of an equipment monitored by applicable transducers to sense measurands periodically over a period of time. Then, these measurands are analyzed to project when they would reach pre-established limits which would indicate equipment failure or serious degradation resulting in the equipment failing to perform its intended functions.A micro-processor based computer is used to analyze the measurands, as required, and correlates them, by means of mathematical extropolation to obtain the time at which failure, or a pre-established limit of degradation of the equipment is expected to occur.

  • Patent number: 4704899
Abstract: A physical property of the solid component of a slurry, for example the percentage content of a selected element such as iron, is continuously measured. A sampling device (2) carrying a filter element is immersed in the slurry at a sampling station (A). Vacuum is applied to the sampling device (2) to cause the liquid content of the slurry to pass through the filter element, leaving the solid component deposited on the filter element as a filter cake. The sampling element is transferred to a heating station (B), where the filter cake is dried, and then to a measuring station (C), where the desired physical property is measured. The sampling device is then transferred to a washing station (D), where the filter cake is washed from the filter element so that the procedure can start again. The process is automatically controlled by a microprocessor, enabling continuous sampling of the slurry to be carried out.

  • Patent number: 4662199
Abstract: A key retaining device for capturing and selectively locking therein a portion of the working section of a key. When the key is locked in the device, its handle section is visible so that the presence of the key can be instantly determined without the unlocking of the apparatus, yet the key cannot be removed from the device until unlocked with a master key. Retention of the key within the housing is accomplished by a clamping mechanism employing a longitudinally sliding member having a wedge-like member which is urged toward the working section of the key upon the sliding member moving in a first longitudinal direction. The sliding member is moved by a bolt couled to a lock by a master key and which is rotated by the master key, and a nut which is held in a transverse slot of the slideable member.
