Abstract: A multipurpose treatment composition for metal surfaces comprises phosphate ions, fluorometallate ions, water soluble polymers containing substituted aminomethylene moieties bonded to benzene rings which also have an oxygen atom bonded to another carbon atom in the same ring, and a distinct kind of film-forming polymer. The compositions are free from chromium and other heavy metals that cause serious pollution problems in some prior art treatment compositions.
Abstract: Water-swellable hot-melt adhesives based on a tackifying resin, a water-dispersible EVA wax, an ethylene/acrylic ester copolymer, a water-soluble homo- or co-polymer and a super absorber polymer powder having an average particle size of less than 80 &mgr;m display a clearly improved swelling behavior in comparison with the prior art. Furthermore, the swelling agent is significantly more homogeneously distributed in the matrix. Such hot-melt adhesives are suitable for ensuring longitudinal water impermeability in modern cable structures, as water-swellable jointing compounds in the building industry in the area of building conservation and restoration. Such hot-melt adhesives are further suitable for the manufacture of absorbent textile fabrics in the personal hygiene sector.
Abstract: A gluing, sealing and coating compound based on a styrene copolymer is characterized in that the styrene copolymer mainly contains styrene and in that it contains an aromatic compound-free polyalkylene oxide and/or its fatty derivative. These non-toxic plastcizers are easily tolerated and increase stickiness, elasticity and stretchability. These compounds are therefore suitable as binders for producing glues, coatings and sealing compounds.

Abstract: Using aqueous electrolytes containing complex fluorides or oxyfluorides such as fluorozirconates, fluorotitanates, and fluorosilicates, articles containing light metals such as magnesium and aluminum may be rapidly anodized to form protective surface coatings. White coatings may be formed on aluminum articles using pulsed direct current or alternating current. When the article to be anodized is comprised of magnesium, pulsed direct current having a relatively low average voltage is preferably used.
