  • Patent number: 6003373
Abstract: A closed loop sensor that utilizes a piezoelectric structure. In one embodiment, drive/non-control electrodes apply drive voltages to the piezoelectric structure and drive/control electrodes apply drive/control voltages to the piezoelectric structure to cause drive mode displacement of the piezoelectric structure and cancel motion induced pickup mode and quadrature displacements of the piezoelectric structure. In another embodiment, pickup/control electrodes detect a pickup signal from the piezoelectric structure corresponding to the motion induced pickup mode and quadrature displacements and apply a control signal to the piezoelectric structure so as to cancel these displacements. In still another embodiment of the invention, an optical sensing device optically senses the motion induced pickup mode and quadrature displacements and control electrodes apply a control signal to the piezoelectric structure so as to cancel them.

  • Patent number: 5953056
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing display of a sporting event. A background video image frame is recorded that represents a background video image of the playing field within the large field of view. The path of a ball in a playing field of the sporting event is tracked while the ball is moving. In response, successive overlay video image frames are generated that represent successive overlay video images of the path of the ball within the large field of view but without the playing field in the background. The successive overlay video image frames are combined with the background video image frame so as to generate successive overlaid video image frames. The overlaid video image frames represent successive overlaid video images of the path of the ball in the playing field within a large field of view and comprise the successive overlay video images overlaid on the background video image.

  • Patent number: 5900011
Abstract: An integrated processor/memory device comprising a main memory, a CPU, a victim cache, and a primary cache. The main memory comprises main memory banks. The victim cache stores victim cache sub-lines of words. Each of the victim cache sub-lines has a corresponding memory location in the main memory. When the CPU issues an address in the address space of the main memory, the victim cache determines whether a victim cache hit or miss has occurred in the victim cache. And, when a victim cache miss occurs, the victim cache replaces a selected victim cache sub-line of the victim cache sub-lines in the victim cache with a new victim cache sub-line. The primary cache comprises primary cache banks. Each of the primary cache banks stores one or more cache lines of words. Each cache line has a corresponding memory location in the corresponding main memory bank.

  • Patent number: 5859982
Abstract: A client computer system and associated method in a computer network over which are provided programs with methods. The client computer is capable of executing the programs with reduced run-time memory space requirements. Specifically, a network communications interface receives the methods of the programs and a network communications manager loads uncompressed in available space in the run-time memory the methods when they are received. An execution controller controls execution of the programs so that the methods are invoked and not invoked at various times during execution of the programs. A compressor compresses in the memory compressible ones of the uncompressed methods that are not invoked so that space is made available in the run-time memory. The compressor also decompresses in available space in the run-time memory decompressible ones of the methods so that they may be invoked.

  • Patent number: 5848022
Abstract: A novel address enable circuit for use in a synchronous memory that includes a memory core. The address enable circuit includes an address latching circuit that outputs a synchronized address and latches a pre-decoded address when an input clock signal transitions from a first logical level to a second logical level so that the synchronized address identifies the pre-decoded address. The address enable circuit also includes a reset circuit that generates a reset signal that (1) does not indicate a reset when the latched chip enable signal indicates that the memory has been selected while the clock signal is at the second logical level, (2) indicates a reset when the latched chip enable signal indicates that the memory has not been selected while the clock signal is at the second logical level, and (3) does not indicate a reset while the clock signal is at the first logical level.

  • Patent number: 5844428
Abstract: A novel driver circuit is disclosed that is used for driving a logic voltage sensed by a sensing amplifier of a memory onto a data line of the memory. The driver circuit is responsive to first sensing signals and second sensing signals that are delayed with respect to the first sensing signals. When the first and second sensing signals indicate that equalization is occuring in the sensing amplifier, the driver circuit latches the data line logic voltage on the data line without any false transitions or glitches occuring on the data line. In addition, the driver circuit becomes self biased when the first sensing signals indicate that sensing is occuring in the sensing amplifier but the second sensing signals indicate that equalization is still occuring. This is done to minimize the voltage swing in the driver circuit when the sensed logic voltage is driven onto the data line while both the first and second sensing signals indicate that sensing is occuring.

  • Patent number: 5831881
Abstract: A method and circuit for forward and backward transform of a DCT and IDCT, based upon the so called "Loeffler-architecture, is disclosed. The circuit has a chip area as small as possible. The method has a small number of calculation operations and a high accuracy of calculation. The respective structures of the disclosed DCT and IDCT are as similar as possible. Based upon the high commonality of this DCT and IDCT pair, using three butterfly stages and one correction stage, the algorithms are adapted to the desired processing performance. Two of the butterfly stages are executed in a simple time multiplexed operation in common circuitry. The data is permuted after the computation of one butterfly stage and fedback via delay lines into the common circuitry for the other butterfly stage. The other stages are operated without a stepwise time multiplexed operation.

  • Patent number: 5790436
Abstract: A system and method of simulating operation of an integrated circuit. First, circuit characteristics of circuit components are measured, and a set of circuit simulation model parameters are generated for each measured circuit component. Then, the operation of predefined circuit primitives is simulated using each of the generated sets of circuit simulation model parameters. The circuit primitives include the measured circuit components. The simulated operations are then analyzed to select ones of the simulated operations that are worst, best and nominal with respect to a specified circuit performance parameter and to extract model parameters corresponding to the worst case, best case and nominal case sets of circuit simulation model parameters from the generated sets of circuit simulation model parameters. Each extracted set of circuit simulation model parameters comprises one of the generated sets of circuit simulation model parameters.

  • Patent number: 5765157
Abstract: A computer system and associated method for executing a plurality of threads of execution with reduced memory space requirements. The computer system comprises a memory, an execution controller, and a data compressor. The execution controller controls execution of the threads such that the threads are executable and unexecutable at different times. The execution controller also stores uncompressed into available space in the run-time memory execution data of the threads when the execution data is generated. The data compressor compresses the uncompressed execution data of compressible ones of the threads that are unexecutable. As a result, space is made available in the run-time memory. The data compressor also decompresses in available space in the run-time memory the compressed execution data of decompressible ones of the threads so that the decompressible ones of the threads may be executed after becoming executable.
