Patent number: 6788809Abstract: A system and method for recognizing gestures. The method comprises obtaining image data and determining a hand pose estimation. A frontal view of a hand is then produced. The hand is then isolated the background. The resulting image is then classified as a type of gesture. In one embodiment, determining a hand pose estimation comprises performing background subtraction and computing a hand pose estimation based on an arm orientation determination. In another embodiment, a frontal view of a hand is then produced by performing perspective unwarping and scaling. The system that implements the method may be a personal computer with a stereo camera coupled thereto.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Radek Grzeszczuk, Gary R. Patent number: 6775700Abstract: A system, method and computer program for transmitting and receiving information between computer systems. This is accomplished using a common information model object manager (CIMOM) proxy that serves to receive and transmit information from one computer on the network to another. The CIMOM proxy relies on both managed system providers and client applications to register with the CIMOM proxy. Once registered the client application may request information and receive it from managed system providers.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2001Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Heung-For Cheng, Mahendra Ramachandran, Srinivas Vuppula

Patent number: 6760799Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing operating system interrupts by queuing incoming network traffic units received by a network interface, where said units are received without interrupting a host environment on receiving queued units. However, if a predetermined number of received units have a same origin, then the host environment is interrupted as subsequent network traffic units are received by the network interface, until a predetermined number of network traffic units are subsequently received from a different origin. Notwithstanding queuing incoming network traffic units, the host environment is interrupted on expiration of a timeout period, or if a predetermined number of units have been queued.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1999Date of Patent: July 6, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Randall D. Patent number: 6754829Abstract: In one embodiment, methods and apparatus for an operator of a console to authenticate to a system of heterogeneous computers by logging in only once to a representative computer or “core”. After logging in, the operator acquires a session certificate (e.g., an X.509-based certificate), allowing the operator to prove identity and group membership information to other nodes on a network. The core, before signing session certificates, embeds data in an extended data area of the certificates. The extended data includes the operator's username and groups to which the operator belongs, and possibly other information such operator context (or domain). The username, group membership, and other extended data is based on the namespace of the core computer, and other devices on the network need not belong to that namespace or even use the same network operating system.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1999Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Alan B. Patent number: 6724848Abstract: A Universal Serial Bus repeater is provided, comprising a method and apparatus for detecting a specified data pattern and regenerating or retransmitting the recognized data pattern. In some embodiments, the invention recognizes an end of sync signal, and is operable to retransmit the end of sync signal and the following data that is presumed to be valid as a result of sync recognition. In other embodiments, the invention recognizes and retransmits a properly aligned end of packet signal, the size of which is dependent on detection of whether the end of packet signal is a part of a start of frame packet.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2000Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Venkat Iyer

Patent number: 6636245Abstract: A method includes creating a first window to receive video which at least partially overlaps a second window on a region of overlap of a display. When the video is to be displayed in the background, the second window is configured to draw after the first window, and the first and second windows are configured as children of a common parent window. Otherwise, the first window is configured as a child of the second window.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2000Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Jim B. Estipona

Patent number: 6597566Abstract: A computer system is formed using a riser card and a chassis with serviceability features. The riser card includes a connector disposed at an interior facing surface of the riser card for facilitating coupling of a storage device with removable medium to the riser card. The sealed chassis includes a covered opening disposed on a wall of the chassis that can be uncovered to provide access to service one or more components. The riser card in cooperation with the sealed chassis conceals the storage device, if provided. The riser card and the sealed chassis may be independently employed.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1999Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Truong Phan

Patent number: 6580837Abstract: A method for determining a value for an unknown picture element (pixel) T based on neighboring pixel values of a checkerboard decimated color plane. Immediate and extended neighborhood pixel values are selected. In one configuration, immediate neighborhood pixel values are averaged. In another configuration, all neighborhood pixels are averaged. A binary pattern is determined by comparing the average with each immediate and extended neighborhood pixel values. The binary pattern is reduced to identify a set of coefficients for the binary pattern. A summed cross-product is computed for the set of coefficients and each pixel value of the immediate and extended neighborhoods. In one configuration, coefficients are stored in look up tables, where different tables correspond to different input image types. In another configuration, multiple lookup tables are stored within input images, allowing different image reconstruction options based on the embedded tables.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1999Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Louis Johnson

Patent number: 6505243Abstract: The invention provides device-specific help information, such as help, warranty, configuration, installation information, etc., for network-attachable devices. After a connection notification from a network-attachable device is received over a first data path, device-specific help information for the network-attachable device is retrieved. This device-specific help information is then provided to a configuration interface, thus facilitating installation, configuration and customization of the device.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1999Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Victor Lortz

Patent number: 6446046Abstract: The invention provides for facilitating e-commerce transactions between a client and a server over a network. In particular, a client, such as a client computing device, can perform a diagnostic test, such as a power-on self-test, and determine during the test any goods requiring replacement (e.g., acquiring a substitute good, repair, or upgrade). The client may then contact a server, such as a vendor or a technical support department, for procuring such replacement. In one embodiment, the server sends the client diagnostic commands so as to allow remote diagnosis of operability of the client.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Cary E. Patent number: 6363359Abstract: The invention provides for facilitating e-commerce transactions between a client and a server over a network. An initial operation is to contact a server over the network. Data is received which indicates categories of goods or services offered by the server. A first category of the categories is selected, and the client is searched for installed goods, and an inspection log prepared. The inspection log is submitted to the first server, and a list of goods or services offered by the first server is received, where the list is determined according to the inspection log. The received list may only list goods and services related to the first category, or it may contain suggested purchases determined according to past client purchases, relevance to client installed goods, or expected client needs.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Cary E.
