  • Patent number: 6746641
Abstract: Process for producing formed cellulosic articles, such as fibers, filaments, sheetings, membranes or tubes, comprising a) extruding a solution of cellulose in an aqueous amine oxide, particularly N-methylmorpholine N-oxide, through an extrusion die via an air gap and coagulating the formed article in an aqueous precipitation bath containing amine oxide, and b) passing the formed article through at least one washing stage for removing residual amine oxide from the article, characterized in that the liquor of the precipitation bath in the precipitation stage and/or the washing liquor of the washing stage(s) is treated with ultra-violet radiation. In this manner the formation and growth of coatings, films and slime deposits caused by microorganisms is avoided on parts of the plant which come into contact with said liquors containing the amine oxide.

  • Patent number: 6412273
Abstract: In a continuous-combustion piston engine in which working mediums flowing out of a combustion chamber is successively fed to at least two cylinders, each of the cylinders is stationary in relationship to the combustion chamber and has an inlet. Controls are provided that successively connect the inlet to the combustion chamber and separate it from the combustion chamber. Mechanical losses are minimized in this manner.

  • Patent number: 5585648
Abstract: A green-blue to ultraviolet light-emitting optical device, e.g. a green-blue to ultraviolet emitting laser or a green-blue to ultraviolet emitting diode, comprising a green-blue to ultraviolet light emitting gallium nitride material on a base structure including a silicon carbide substrate, which preferably consists of 2H-SiC, 4H-SiC, or a-axis oriented 6H-SiC. The carrier mobility and the transparency of the silicon carbide substrate are optimized by the selection of orientation and polytype, thus enhancing device performance. The light-emitting diodes may incorporate a structural modification to increase the light output comprising a dielectric Bragg mirror beneath the LED structure, made of alternating layers of AlN, GaN, InN or their alloys. Methods for making such light-emitting diodes are provided, including a technique for defining individual devices by mesa etching which avoids possible damage to the active area during dicing.

  • Patent number: 5063254
Abstract: A polysiloxane comprising a linear polydiorganosiloxane chain joined at one terminus to an acrylic-functional end group, and joined at its other end to a cross-linked MTQ moiety comprising a multiplicity of monofunctional siloxane units (M), trifunctional siloxane units (T), and tetrafunctional siloxane units (Q), wherein the concentration ratio of M units to the sum of T units and Q units, M/(T+Q), in the MTQ moiety is from about 0.55 to about 0.75, and wherein the number of siloxy repeating units in the linear polydiorganosiloxane chain is from 25 to 1,000. The M and or /T units may also contain (meth)acrylate groups. The MTQ/silicone hybrid resins of the invention are curable by UV radiation, to provide high tensile strength silicone compositions having utility in potting and conformal coating apllications.

  • Patent number: 4828177
Abstract: An adjustable sprayer assembly includes a frame supported by a pivoting wheel assembly and a pair of side wheel assemblies arranged in a tricycle fashion. An adjustable spray boom assembly and an operator boom assembly are connected to the frame. A container of a substance to be sprayed is mounted on the frame and selectively sprayed through nozzles on the spray boom as the sprayer assembly is pushed or pulled by an operator. An electrical meter connected to a generator mounted on one of the wheel assemblies can be provided so that an operator can monitor and maintain the speed of the sprayer assembly.
