Abstract: A combination filter element comprising a bundle of hollow microporous fibers housed within an extruded carbon block, wherein the carbon block is fabricated to balance particle retention capacity against absorption capacity to provide a composite filter with desirable pressure drop, filter life, and particulate and chemical contamination reduction, and a filtration device, in which combination filter element may be employed, having a base portion including a sump which has an inlet and an outlet and a base which has a reception port for receiving the filter element.

Abstract: Braces for dentifacial functional orthopaedic and periodontal treatment made of natural or synthetic, flexible, food-grade material, generally consisting of a double cradle (or trough), these two cradles having externally, in a plane, a flaring U-shape and separated by a thick horizontal partition (3). The braces are further characterised in that: (a) the portion of the cradle designed for receiving the lower incisors is sufficient for fitting in the lower four incisors; (c) the height of the side lingual (2) and vestibular (1) partitions defining the channel designed for receiving the lower incisors (4), from the thick horizontal partition (3), is at least equal to the height of the incisors up to their neck.
Abstract: A filter sheet positioned between plates (14) of a filter press has a fluid-impermeable wax layer (11) sealing the sheet's perimeter. The wax preferably comprises ethylene bis stearamide and has a durometer reading of about 75 to about 100 Shore A hardness at 25.degree. C. and 85.degree. C., a melt point of about 110.degree. C. to about 180.degree. C., and a viscosity of less than about 100 cp at 155.degree. C. The wax layer increases the useful life of the filter sheet while providing a sheet which is easily released from a filter press and which retains integrity along the seal during repeated hot water sanitations.

A process for removing ionic impurities from a photoresist solution is also provided which comprises passing the photoresist solution through said filter sheet to remove ionic impurities therefrom.

Abstract: Methods for rapid detoxification of patients addicted to opioid narcotics are provided. The methods include administering nalmefene to induce acute withdrawal, and administering dextromethorphan with nalmefene or other opioid antagonists to reduce the patient's subjective feelings of residual withdrawal symptoms following detoxification. In one method of rapid detoxification, unconsciousness is induced by anesthetizing the patient with desflurane.
