Abstract: Multi-quantum well laser structures are provided comprising active and/or passive MQW regions. Each of the MQW regions comprises a plurality of quantum wells and intervening barrier layers. Adjacent MQW regions are separated by a spacer layer that is thicker than the intervening barrier layers. The bandgap of the quantum wells is lower than the bandgap of the intervening barrier layers and the spacer layer. The active region may comprise active and passive MQWs and be configured for electrically-pumped stimulated emission of photons or it may comprises active MQW regions configured for optically-pumped stimulated emission of photons.
Abstract: Methods for preparing porous inorganic coatings on porous supports using certain pore fillers, and porous supports coated with porous inorganic coatings. The porous inorganic coatings may serve as membranes useful in, for example, liquid-liquid, liquid-particulate, gas-gas, or gas-particulate separation applications.

Abstract: Disclosed herein, without limitation, are activated carbon honeycomb catalyst beds and systems for removing mercury and other toxic metals from a process stream, i.e, from flue gas of a coal combustion system. The activated carbon honeycomb can for example remove greater than 90% mercury from flue gas with a simple design and without adding material to the flue gas. Also disclosed herein, and without limitation, are methods for manufacturing and using the disclosed honeycomb catalyst beds and systems.

Abstract: Described herein are compositions including heterocyclic organic compounds such as fused thiophene compounds, methods for making them, and uses thereof.
Abstract: Extruded metal honeycombs are produced by the direct extrusion of a softened bulk metal feedstock through a honey-comb extrusion die comprising a feedhole array for delivering softened metal through a supporting die baseplate to a honeycomb die discharge section, the discharge section comprising an array of intersecting discharge slots that form the walls of an extruded metal honeycomb structure. This process can be optimized by employing a proper pressure gradient for a particular extrudate flow rate, extrudate composition, and wall-drag condition arising from the particular composition of the feedhole wall, as illustrated graphically in FIG. 4.
